Hello to all, I am still floating from the return of Werther. I sat there and was so amazed as our beloved Andrea worked his way carefully across the stage and sang his heart out to us. His emotion and feeling soared to me. He definitely hit the high notes with his heart and soul. I was amazed as I watched him laying in his dying bed and still be able to sing as he did. Has anyone ever tried to sing with great emotion and volume laying down? Every time he sang I just shook my head and am still in awe. The critics say he is not Opera material!?? I was sitting next to a man that was 74 years old and he told me of the joy he gets too, from AB. We talked during the intermissions and he also read that days bad review. He said that the critics like to stir peoples emotions. It sells papers, magazines, etc., and that if all of them gave him rave reviews no one would need to check for more opinions, hence no paper sales. Now people are curious as the rumors fly and it sells the papers. Job well done. I feel he is right. Andrea knows his strengths and weaknesses and he also knows that Denyce Graves would not waste her time on an unknown Opera tenor. She is established and can choose any leading man. She choose to do this with our Andrea. She knew the risk! She sang supremely, as did the other characters. Even the children! I thoroughly enjoyed this and am looking forward to seeing him in Chicago. It was an afternoon of heaven for me!

My daughter dropped me off on the back side of the Opera house and they were unloading a horse. We were petting the horse and I ask them excitedly was that Andrea's horse that he rides in on, in his opening act and they said yes! My heart started thumping and we talked and she told me of how gentle Andrea was with the horse and that he had a way with them. His horses were still at home in Italy. I ask her if she had any pictures with Andrea and the horse and the stage people came out and hurried here to bring him in! I actually petted the horse that Andrea rode! Do you think I am crazy???

I do not know of what more I can say except that I did not get any sleep for 2 days prior to the Opening and I anxiously awaited news from our goers and critic's reviews. I am very glad that I spoke with that old gentelman, as I see a new prospective in the hat if I may say. Money, selling papers. We all know and love Andrea and came to see him. We all know that Andrea will always do his best no matter what, and we would not care if he came out and his voice was not at its best. We came to see him! Be near him, see him in person! Hear him in person! I did not think it would ever be possible for me to really see him "in person." A few from the group went out to dinner and he came in. I wish I could have been there but I would not know what to say to him. I would have been speechless! Nothing can compare what I feel in my heart and I will always have the memory of him standing with his arms open and stretched out as he seems to be embracing all of us! Kind of like the saying people use of our Lord Jesus. "How much do I love thee and he stretches out his arms and dies for us." I am not comparing him to our Lord, but maybe as an Angel sent here to give us a little peace of heaven here on earth! The inner peace that he brings to us all!

Still in awe in Detroit
