16 Tracks Down Ty Miller In The Desert! (1991)
The blue Bronco truck bounces and jolts down the dusty Mescal, Arizona road and comes to a halt where the rest of The Young Riders cast and crew are parked. As the driver’s seat door opens, the silver spur on the back of his cowboy boot catches the early morning sun, causing a blinding flash which seems to make the announcement- Ty Miller has arrived on the set- let the action begin!
“The Kid” Works Hard
On the previous day, shooting had gone into the wee hours, which means that gorgeous Ty’s baby blues are still a little bleary this morning from having gotten only three hours of sleep! But at any hour, Ty knows how to tap into his energy reserves. It’s something he’s gotten very used to doing. Playing the Kid, the official leader of the Young Riders, means that Ty’s in a majority of the scenes. Standing against the saloon backdrop getting ready for the first scene of the day, Ty paused to give his take on the Kid. “There’s a leadership quality and there’s a real honest quality about him. I guess I really identify with him because I deal with things the same way. A lot of the characteristics that I have are in this character.”
Dancing In The Desert!
The scene outside of the saloon is shot, and Ty takes a breather on the steps. He pulls out a red bandanna tucked into his back pocket and pats his face. Ty and the rest of The Young Riders have gotten pretty used to braving the heat in the Arizona desert, but Ty’s favorite time is the rainy monsoon season, which happens in late summer. He remembered one time last year when it rained during filming: “Everyone was on location, out on the range, when a tremendous thunderstorm hit with torrential rains. Everyone just took off their clothes and dashed around in the rain! It was great!” Poor Ty looks like he could use a few raindrops right about now- it’s hot!
Winding Down In The West
The desert sun is setting in deep shades of purple and pink, and the long day on The Young Riders set is coming to an end (earlier than usual- there is no night shooting tonight). Ty heads back to his blue Bronco, which will take him to his home, about forty-five minutes away. On the way, he might stop for chicken burritos for dinner; he loves the Mexican food in Arizona and eats a lot of it! Back at home, depending on how tired he is, this cute cowboy might pick up his guitar for a relaxing strum session, or he might just get into bed with a good book, reading until he dozes off. A hard-working Young Rider after all, needs all the sleep he can get!
