The Young Riders was classified as a Western television show that began in 1989 and ran until 1992. But, to many of us, it was more than just any Western show......in a sense it became a family!
Based on the short life of the Pony Express, the series brought us close to the adventures of the riders, and often times placed us in the saddle right beside them. Through adventures, trials, and romance, I think we can safely say that this show covered it all.
So, am I totally crazy when I say that as a result of this we have created a small "family"? Well, some people might think so, and yes, it may in fact be true. All I can say is that I've made more friends, and become close to people since the show appeared than I have in a very long time. We learned from the riders what it meant to stick together, and that it shouldn't matter where you are from, or the color of your skin. Although the riders were sometimes split by the talk of the Civil War that divided this country of The United States in half, it never meant that they stopped loving each other. And now that we are all nearing the 21st century, I think it is important that no matter what, as friends and family, we stick together......even if our loyalties are divided, the love and memories don't have to die. Maybe that's one of the things that the writers of The Young Riders realized.
Is all that I've said here what the show was about? I honestly believe that if I were to list all of the important information and things that I personally loved about the series, well, let's just say it would probably take up most of my web page space, and that It would be so long that you'd have to read through this for a couple of weeks before you actually hit the end. :-)
In short, let me close by saying that no matter what your age, or how many episodes you've seen, or where you're from, or even who your favorite rider was, we all share a commond bond.....and that is that we all love a wonderful show. It was a show that I can safely say impacted our lives in a dynamic way and brought ficticious (and real) characters up close and personal. We could feel their struggles, laugh with them, or maybe even cry a little. And although those characters lived in the 1860s, they faced real life issues like we do too! The memories of the series will stay with us, and even if the show is over, we're keeping it alive through our fiction and in our minds. May The Young Riders remain for ever.
