Cheryl, author of: Tale of Two Strangers, It Was Never Meant to Be, & Wanderings of a Soul.
So I've finally gotten around to writing one of these things. So here's a little about myself. My name's Cheryl. I'm 23 yrs old and am currently a Plant Biology grad student at Ohio University. I'm originally from Oklahoma though and got my undergrad degree at Oklahoma State (Go Pokes!). I have dark blue eyes and dirty dishwater blonde hair but I was supposed to be a red head and just didn't get the right genes for it so I normally have my hair dyed red. I don't have all that much time to write, but find it to be a great hobby to fill what little free time I do have. I have several other hobbies and interests though (that usually are just as forgotten as writing) such as: tropical fish, plants, sci fi, star trek, computer games and the outdoors.
So how did I start get started writing fan fic. Back in the late 80's I started watching this great new Western TV show called "The Young Riders", and it has remained to this day my favorite TV show of all time (and believe me it's had some hard competition like Deep Space 9, ER, "the practice", Ally McBeal). But I grew up and went on to high school and then college and almost totally forgot about the show. Then one day I was looking at a web page for the "Alien Nation" TV show (like I said I was a sci fi fan). And the thought occurred to me that if there are web pages for that crummy old sci fi show that only lasted about 2 seasons maybe there were web pages for "The Young Riders". And low and behold there were!
You see the truth is that I was born about 100 yrs too late. I just belong in the late 19th century and am a big history buff. I never liked the old westerns though b/c there were all too glamorized and fake, but TYR was a show I could relate to. Sure they made a few little mistakes but all in all the show was done real well, and I quickly feel in love with all the characters. If I could just walk into the TV and live in the world of “The Young Riders” I’d be in heaven.
Ok, back to be writing. The truth is English was my worst subject in school. I jumped for joy when I found out that I didn't have to take it in college. But I've always had dozens of stories and characters running around in my head. I started reading all the fabulous fan fic, partly b/c I really missed the show, and one night got inspired to write (and if I ever finish a story it will probably be a miracle). Thus I mainly write to share with all of you the strange world that goes on in my head.
Then I got swamped with work and thought about just giving up writing for awhile. But there were too many people that really liked my wanderings story and really wanted it to be finished. So I’m trying to get all of that story out of my head and into the computer whenever I have time.
Thank you Joanna, Kirsten, Anna, Kathleen, Sarah, Jill, Lyn, Beth and Laura, for the support and feedback.
