“Teaspoon, Please don’t do this” Buck spoke tears in his eyes as he begged his boss to reconsider his actions, grabbing him by the arm and spun Teaspoon around to face him, desperate to stop the actions he knew would husrt his love.

Teaspoon looked deep into Buck’s eyes and saw the fear and pain there, and that shocked him, never had he seen Buck so terrified before. He knew that Buck was deeply pained by what he could see was going to happen.

“Buck we have to do this, you know that” Teaspoon put his hand on Buck’s shoulder and frowned as Buck pulled away from him and walked a few paces along the porch.

“She won’t be in any danger” he spoke rationally “You know that as well as I do” Teaspoon spoke trying to reason with the fear stricken Buck.

“Dammit Teaspoon, she will be here and so will Eccles, of course she will be in danger”

“We won’t be far away from her Buck and Isabelle will be here for her” Teaspoon spoke calmly “we wouldn’t let anyone hurt her Buck, surely you know that” he spoke but his words fell on deaf ears.

“Teaspoon, don’t you know that if he wants to hurt her nothing we can do will protect her, we can’t just leave her here alone” the threatening tears in Buck’s eyes overflowed one fat tear rolling down his cheek as he struggled to control his emotions. “That’s the girl I love Teaspoon and my baby” he shook his head sadly “I never thought I would have a child but she has given me that gift” his liquid eyes met Teaspoon’s “I can’t let Eccles take that from me Teaspoon, please don’t ask me to risk that”

Teaspoon grasped Buck’s shoulder feeling his pain as deeply as if it was his own, but unsure how to help him. Knowing what could happen when Buck was so emotionally tormented, especially after what had transpired after Ike’s death. He wasn’t willing to risk Buck’s future but he also knew that this was the quickest and most probable way to catch Bernie’s husband out. Knowing that if they were all expecting an attack they would be ready for him not taken by surprise as they had been by her father.

“Buck, I won’t ask you to do anything that you don’t want to do, but this is the best way to help her.” Teaspoon spoke “I don’t want to lose either of you but this is the only way to catch him at his own game, before he hurts her”

Buck took a deep breath and looked deeply, searchingly into Teaspoon’s eyes

“Do you think that we will get him out of Bernie’s life?” he asked slowly

“I think that if we are careful we can Buck, but we can’t do anything to jeopardise it” Teaspoon spoke firmly

“You do as I say when I say Buck or you are not involved in this at all, do you hear me?” he spoke

“I can’t save you from prison if you kill him Buck, I don’t want to have to try to save you from a rope” Teaspoon watched his face as he spoke trying to guage f his words were sinking in

“I’m not going to throw away the chance that I have been given with Bernie Teaspoon” Buck stated bluntly and Teaspoon could hear the sincerity in his words, knowing that he could trust Buck not to do anything stupid. He watched as Buck walked back into the house knowing that he was going to make his peace with Bernie.

Buck walked slowly up to the bedroom where he knew Bernie was resting closing the door behind him he stood at the door leaning against it and just watched her as she slept, his mouth lifting into a gentle smile filled with love and tenderness as she rolled over to look at him and extend her arms to him.

Unable to resist the lure of her love he moved to the bedside and sank into her arms, neither needing words, just needing to feel the other ensconced in the warm embrace of their love. Buck laid in her arms, unable to sleep, yet unwilling to disturb their fragile peace by mentioning her husbands name, his silent tears of fear and heartache dampening her hair. Holding her tight, one hand resting gently on the mound of her belly, feeling their child moving beneath his hand, he laid there until the sun began to lighten the sky outside their window. The new day dawning bringing with it even more uncertainty for their relationship and their future.
