S.O.S. Save Our Shibas
Shiba Inu
Rescue
S.O.S (Save Our Shibas) is an organization comprised of
volunteers whose goal is to find new homes for displaced Shiba
Inu.
S.O.S. Places only spayed or neutered dogs in approved homes. Shibas
of all ages come up for adoption. Unfortunately, older dogs are often overlooked
in favor of puppies. Older dogs are usually already housebroken and are past the
chaotic "teenage" stage of their lives. Shibas adapt to new situations fairly
easily, and will soon love their new owners as if they were brought up with them
from puppy hood. For individuals who want a dog, but don't have time or energy
to deal with the demands of a puppy. An adult dog is often the answer. Save a
life, adopt a rescued dog!
S.O.S. Asks that the potential adopting owner
have a fenced yard, be willing to obedience train, keep vaccinations and
heartworm up to date, and offer lots of love and understanding to the new
dog.
Shiba Inus are a wonderful breed, but they are not for everyone.
They can be aloof and energetic. Shibas make great jogging partners, if kept on
a leash. They shed twice a year (in handfuls), dig and chew, run away if not
leashed or fenced in, and sometimes will be predatory to small animals (many
Shibas share homes with cats, or other animals and get along well. Introductions
must be made carefully.)
S.O.S acts a support group for the new Shiba
owner. If a problem or question arises, S.O.S. Is there to provide help in the
form of training advice, breed information, housing suggestions, or give contact
names (trainers, vets, etc.) S.O.S. volunteers want to help new owners, before
they become frustrated with the dog.
Generally, S.O.S. dogs and puppies
are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped or tattooed, and have shots and worming.
New owners are expected to continue vet care throughout the dog's natural life.
There is an adoption fee to help continue the rescue program.
