I was near...for a lot of times..but this never happen!!!
I heard about Stevie Ray in 1984, the "Cold shot" video was very present
in our local MTV,
And i really liked those great solo's and all those guitars , and when
i saw a Hendrix's poster
behind him....i thought." Finally a man who really play the guitar!"
So i bought the second lp. In those 84" summer i planned, with a couple
of friends, to make a
trip to the Umbria jazz, in Perugia, maybe the biggest Jazz festival
in Italy. As the same we had
no really money, so we tryed to watch everything was free ..or something,
Stevie was scheduled
for Sunday evening, some of my friends were interested and some not....and
we had to drive
home for 400 Km.....and Monday was coming....so. i missed the gig!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ho well, but there is ever a good ending, when i managed to find a man
who recorded
both audio\video of the gig...or maybe he recorded only three songs
on video because
he was stopped to do that..our italian Tv was recording too, so they
weren't so happy
about that, but the audio recorder was left running for all the set
so i\we have this jewel..
And....did you think the RAI tv broadcasted the gig ?......no way!!!
it's still in the vaults.
OK, that was 1984, next year another summer trip, we packed the Land
Rover of a friend
and we drove to England....via london...and via Paris...So we are in
Paris, hanging around
broke as even.....walking down the streets when....i saw this "STEVIE
RAY VAUGHAN
and DOUBLE TROUBLE"...man, i was just in the front of the Olimpià....but
this was an
advert, since the gig was scheduled for the very next week...........merdè!
Meanwhile i was collectin stuff, tapes\videos etc...1988 came, and a
new Blues festival
was put up in Pistoia, near 120 km from my home, i never know nothing'
about the gigs,
so i found later that SRV played....nice!....but our RAI tv recorded
all, as the same, and the
next month all the Festival was broadcasted late at night, so i taped
Johnny Winter, Bo Diddley
and........last date was SRV, it was very late so i programmed my good
JVC videotape with
the right date and right hour........or, i thought to be right...because
i recorded not the gig,
but a wonderful one-hour program about homecookin'...i was near the
suicide!
Only three years after i managed to find a copy...from England......damn!
1990, another trip to London, that was my 5th time, other 5 to came,
i did the usual stuff,
going to Camden town, Portobello, all the major records shops, searching
boot etc...
you know a typical male hobbyes..i bought "Timeout", just to see what's
happened in London
and a b/w advert seez....".Hammermith Oden Monday 10 September , Stevie
ray Vaughan
and Double Trouble live 7.30 PM, tickets 10£\ 9£\ 8£"...i
thought "here we go again!"
infact i was leaving London the week before......so i just cut those
little piece of paper
and put it inside my pocket............of course you know what's happened,
i never miss the gig,
..but the little paper is still inside my pocket.....ho well, i bought
one new ( the pocket)
but the paper is still there...........
