Sanity III: The Lesson Learned©

The boy sits on the hill
And looks to the north
A boy of good heart and strong will
Stands up and takes a foot forth

His mind races with dreams
Hopes and aspirations
His life promises bright beams
Fortunes and high expectations

The boy can’t help but smile
He ponders as to what life will bring
A boy ready to hike the mile
And make his mark among kings

He started his steps slow
Learning to walk this land
With success, further he’ll go
Learning the goals at hand.

You race faster with each day
But think not of caution
Worry not of what stands in the way
Care not for exhaution

But your road is laiden with stones
And they trip you up more and more
It aches muscles and bones
but it hinders not your desire to explore

You race even faster with excitement
And then comes the major fall
Destroying any previous enjoyment
Sitting there, you cry and ball

And the collection of falls take their toll
For your desire is burnt away
Leaving empty a gaping hole
Protecting not from heat of the day

I sit there and think to myself
Freezing at night, burnt during day
Holding me up like a broken shelf
Broken down, lost somewhere in the grey

The howling winds begin to pick up
Winds so dry and so cold
Carrying the stones that stick up
Bombarding me with pains untold

The winds blow incredibly fast
And the pain quickly grows
No knowledge of how long it will last
Must defend myself from these foes

I build myself an impenetrable wall
To keep al persons out
I deafen my ears heed no call
Not the faintest whisper nor the loudest shout

He sits by himself all alone
Because others wish me wrong
You let not your feelings shown
For others hurt me before too long

He gives no one the chance
Better a heart lonely than a heart broken
You let no one advance
Better deaf than to hear a harsh word spoken

He misses out on the best in life
Nothing known, nothing lost
learn to deal with the strife
But at what extreme cost?

This wall he has holds out friends
Maybe, but it also holds out foes
But what poor protection it lends
A worthy price I suppose

Have you ever felt true love
To be with the one and have all pain fade
Well I…I know not of…
Maybe this wall does more hurt than aide…

I slowly open my eyes
Struck with a feeling like none before
With the words, I took to realize
A life that I took to ignore

I looked as I sat on the ground
Facing to the north
With new will restored
I stand up and take a foot forth
