Personal Information

My name is Andrew P. Matthias.  Welcome to my personal web page.

Born and raised in Santa Rosa, California. I currently live in Northern California with my wonderful daughter Adrianna and all her many pets.

I would love to eventually open my own business using a Medieval/Renaissance theme.  This dream co-insides with my love of history.  See Personal Interests bellow.

Personal Interests

Scottish Border Reivers -- Also known as "Steel Bonnets"

Scottish Border Reivers -- 16th Century

The name, Border Reiver applies to various inhabitants of the English-Scottish border between the c13th and the early c17th century.

By the 16th century raids between feuding families and settlements were commonplace. The borders had now deteriated into a lawless anarchical buffer zone between England and Scotland.

As I mentioned under my personal information, I am a lover of history. To be more specific pre 1700 AD.  I love to read and collect just about anything that has to do with Medieval or Renaissance history. I also like to 'play' history through partaking in historical reenactment activities. Such activities include (but are not limited to) going to Renaissance Faires, Scottish Highland Games, and Celtic Faires.  At these Faires I have participated as a paid guest and also as part of the entertainment.

Having served with the re-enactment group St. Andrew's Royal Scots & Irish Guild (God save the Queen!), we presently are members of St. David's Guild (a Danish royal court), which recreates the history, costumes and lifestyles of the Renaissance during the Court of King Christian III in Denmark in the years 1538 - 1570.  Our Scottish personas have followed us over to St. David's where my wife now serves as a Lady-in-Waiting to the Queen Dorothea of Denmark and I have have joined the military ranks.

We also participate with the SCA.  SCA stands for: Society for Creative Anachronism, a non-profit group that recreates the better parts of the Middle Ages (ie., no Black Death, no Inquisition, no serfs, but lots of feasting, dancing, pageantry, fine arts, music, and, usually, the people smell clean). Like most members of the SCA, I have created a persona, a fictional person who could have lived in the Middle Ages. See My SCA Persona Information page.

Soon I shall have a page made for my Renaissance persona too.

Robert The Bruce

Bannockburn 1314c

Recognizing the King of Scots, Sir Henry de Bohun couched his lance and galloped towards Robert The Bruce.  Robert, upon seeing the lone knight charging at him, turned his horse and cantered towards de Bohun.  As the thunderous charge came near Robert swerved and rising in his stirrups brought down his axe with such force on de Bohun's head that he cut through the helmet, skull and brain and his axe handle split in two.
