When we woke from a sleepy summer nap We would play for hours Sitting in the sand box and Creating castles in the sand Complete with Kings and Queens And fancy frilly things It's all we thought of It's all we knew Nobody told us it's not for real How could we imagine there would Be another way Day cares are for holding All the Children that we bore Nobody's home now To let you simply take a nap Someone should have told us We just never knew all that We would take flight Under the bright sun burning on Going deep sea diving With our water wings on so tight Jumping rivers in the sidewalk and Going to the stars without a map We never knew there Could be another way We thought everyone had a Castle And a warm comfy bed Stars are only for gazing at And rivers don't flow on walks Someone should have told us Oh my gosh how silly I feel now We made Cities where people never wept Homes where everyone cared And Families that would all share No one ever told us There could be another way Sometimes Families are not all that Someone should have told us We just never knew Can you imagine that We went on Safari to The neighbor woods next door We fought with Tuffy The giant Tiger Yes you got it, he's just a cat You could always find him sitting on My beautiful Mother's lap We would start crying When we thought we heard The Elephants Giant Great ROAR Why didn't they tell us It's not for real Someone should have told us How funny we never knew We thought Mothers were for loving And Dads were made for that We thought Families were forever Not to be thrown out with last night bath We thought all homes came with heat And something warm inside to eat Who would have known All these things are not a fact Someone should have told us We really never knew When we went to school We would listen to the Golden Rules We played soccer by the hour And cheered our teams on When they were in defeat Who would have guessed it Who would have known Our schools are getting bad as our homes You get shot in hallways now And cheering never happens When your in defeat Someone should have told us We never knew there was another way Your never completely safe now Golden rules are made to bend and break Screaming is caused by the killings now Can you imagine that Someone should have warned us We just never knew We would spend Sundays Praying at the Church we go Eating pie and reciting Bible verses Until we thought we'd die Who would have known It could not be safe We never thought there could Be another way We never imagined You could get shot while in your Pew Someone should have warned us We really never knew When we grew older We fell in Love with each other We knew for sure it would last We played under skies so bight and blue And sang each other songs With a million I love you's We took long walks By the flowers growing In the sun so strong Who would have known It would never last Someone should have told us Love requires more than A list like that! We simply never knew Can you just imagine that Now that we are older Looking back on our past Remembering such special things As babies and wedding rings Summer showers and tiny flowers Growing by the score I think that I can still love you Someone should have told me That you could love in more ways than one! I didn't know I can love for who you are And I can love you for Once standing at my side Giving me Grandchildren And with them endless happy times Memories of good times Before the bad began Listening to me when I lost All my best childhood friends Going to parties We were sure would never end I don't hate you But I'm sorry thats all I can love you for Nobody told me it could end like that They should have told me more @By Diana
