"We're not the popular kids, we're not tough guys, or even poster punks, we're not cool, we're not anything, we're just Speds..."

Since forming in March of 1999, the Speds have evolved into one of the Portland scene’s more notable punk acts with an ever growing fan base, as well as gaining loyal followings around the northwest United States and the farther reaches of Canada. Their name has become synonymous with high energy live shows and their music with strong lyrics and primarily old school punk style melodies. Dougie Schmuck’s voice and very passionate, yet punk, delivery accompanied by the upbeat nature of the music defines the sound as well as incites crowds to dance around and sing along to songs that sometimes have very depressing, or morbid lyrics with huge smiles on their faces. It’s an interesting juxtaposition that people can enjoy and appreciate on many different levels. Portland’s number one independent newspaper The Willamette Week has praised the “youthful exuberance they put into their Ramones meet the Clash, 90 second blitzkriegs.” In a review of the band’s debut release (a four song EP intitled "You Can’t Win") featured in Multiball, one of Portland’s more popular zines, the Speds were labeled as “Portland's best new, young Punk band.” Their latest release is a 13 song album which has also met rave reviews.
