The Mechanical Mother
When Mom cannot
keep
her eggsac, this
is our
preferred method of caring
for the it.
The Mechanical
Mom is a heated, humidified,
thermostatically controlled,
24 hour continuous rotating
eggsac incubator. When we
build these we usually build
a few at a time.
Let us know
if you are interested in having
one built, we will
put you on
the list for the
next time we
build them,
or if we have
extras at the
time, we will
gladly sell you
one or possibly
even trade you one for
Tarantulas. All incubators come
tested and working perfectly.

The Deli-Cup Method
Our other method of incubation
is the popular deli-cup method.
There are a few variations of this,
but basically we use a large cup
with a wide mouth of at least 6".
Around 2" down from the top rim
we drill 1/8" holes that are 1.5" apart,
all the way around for ventilation.
In the bottom we use approx. 2"
or so of thoroughly moistened peat
moss. We use a strong paper towel
and drape it over the top of the
cup and push down to form a
pocket inside of the cup. The paper
towel must not touch the peat moss
at the bottom of the cup. We tape
the paper towel in place on the
outside. The top lid must be clear
for easy viewing to keep an eye
on the goings on inside.

Housing for Spiderlings
Housing
for hundreds of
spiderlings usually consists
of small plastic vials,
condiment cups or things
of the like. When your
female lays an eggsac,
you should be prepared
well in advance. |
A Handy Device
Here is a handy tool that
I designed for working
on an injured Tarantula,
or for a close-up examination
of a defensive Tarantula
for sex determination.
This device safely restrains
the Tarantula while giving
access to virtually any part
of the body. We use different
size restraints for different size
Tarantulas.

Forceps
Forceps are a handy tool
to have around. We use
these to clean all sorts of
unwanted items from our
cages. We use surgical
type forceps but pretty
much any kind will do as
long as they are long
enough. 12 inches or more
is sufficient for most jobs. |
