Going Fishing, by Katie Hoogendam

Catching Some Fish Katy Hoogendam 1-17-2002 It was a warm spring day in the mountain forest when two cubs were enjoying freedom since the snow had melted. They were close to a fast moving river. Sari, the girl, invited White, the boy, to jump into the river with her. She was hot and wanted to swim and catch some fish the same she had seen her mother do so many times before. White refused because he knew it was wrong and dangerous. Temptingly, Sari told him that he was missing out on a lot of fun. A moment later he heard a cry of laughter, he looked to see Sari striving to catch a fish. He saw one in her mouth as she started her way back to the shore. The current pushed her backward and farther away. By now her strength was weakening and the fish fell from her mouth. She was scared but couldn't call for help because she was out of breath. Just then their mom came passing by, instinctively she smelled danger in the air. As she came closer, she heard the splashing, saw Sari, and rescued her. Sari, who was thankful apologized and promised she would always obey her mom. Forgiving her, her mom offered to catch some fish for their next meal.

Here are a few more... family pictures!

That is our bird Dexter the Chicken Goat. (Dexter, like from Dexter's Laboratory, Chicken 'cause he looks like a chicken when he walks, and Goat b/c he eats anything; paper, plastic, cookies, soup, Jell-O, cereal (he really likes Frosted Mini Wheats and Lucky Charms, I've trained him well haven't I.) He doesn't like fruit or vegetables though.
