Bergen House (1915)

Bergen House
2009 E. Main Street

J. D. Bergen was the original owner of this vernacular Craftsman style residence which was built in 1915. The one and one-half story home features a front porch supported by Doric columns and spanning the full width of the façade. Also, pedimented gable ends rise above a simulated eave supported by faux rafters.

The J. D. Bergen Floral Nursery Company was located adjacent to the house and the Oregon Electric Railway tracks ran along the north property line. The nursery may have used this railroad for shipping. Today, Tri-Met's MAX light rail line operates on the former Oregon Electric right-of-way.

The residence and nursery were purchased by Pentti Yanti in 1920 and were listed as the Ben Yantti Estate in 1933. This estate, as described, included several budding houses and green houses. The property remained in the same family until 1971 when it was sold by Eula Yantti.
