This Craftsman Bungalow style home was built in 1917-1918 by Arnold and May (Martha May Hartley) Blades to house themselves and their two daughters, Emma Jean (Jean) and Hazel. Arnold Blades, shown as sawmill owner in the 1920 census, is known to have died in 1920 and this house was sold to Robert Christian Hartrampf right around that same year.
Robert Christian Hartrampf and his father, John William, ran a flour, feed and implement store in downtown Hillsboro. This business was located on W. Main Street, just east of the railroad tracks. Robert's brother, Albert John, reportedly operated a skating rink in the same building. The Hartrampf Feed Store building (later known as the Schnitzer Building) is no longer extant.
