AB/ReTREE TREE PLANTING FOR MASOKO AND MPOMBO WARDS 2011
Foreword

Tree planting project is always taking place between January and February in every year. This project for Masoko and Mpombo is sponsored by ReTree Int. and coordinated by Africa Bridge Tanzania, the project this year only took place in 2 wards, Masoko and Mpombo - AB new ward, this time leaving Isongole Ward.

A total number of 7800 seedlings were planted in 13 villages, 8 for Masoko and 5 for Mpombo. Each village was supplied with 600 seedlings, 200 seedlings were distributed among the village leaders and the villagers as well in each village and 400 seedlings were planted at a village school. At least 1000 seedlings are left for planting bonanza which will be headed by Mr. Barry in late February, 2011.

Planting schedule and other information shown below.

According to Mpombo environment, some of the tree types planted in Masoko were not sent to Mpombo, instead we sent Leucaena leococephala, Passion fruits and Cederella ordorata which have a good growing record there.

Conclusion

The tree planting project, 2011 was remarkably of success, the new AB working Ward-Masoko showed a great need for trees. The demand seems to overpower the supply. The Tukuyu nursery’s stock was 9100 seedlings in 2010/2011, we look forward to maintain the size of the stock in our next nursery.
