Who Am I ?

Well, let's see. I got my start in radio in Hawaii, where I grew up. I did promo spots for school dances. The program director at the local radio station thought I had a some talent, and suggested I come up with a proposal for a radio show. KOAS Teen Scene went on the air in May of 1986. It was five minutes of local news concerning teenagers, and ten minutes of talk show in which I interviewed community member of interest. The show lasted until October of 1987, when my senior activities and community theater took up too much of my time.  After a year of community college, I  went to National Broadcasting School, where I got my diploma  in Radio/TV Announcing in May of 1990.
I then moved to Eugene, where I was on the air at KZEL 96.1FM from October of 1990 until February of 1995. I got my experience in nonprofit community radio at 92V KRVM, also in Eugene, from March of 1995 until September of 1997, when I moved to Portland and began an almost eight year hiatus from radio.
Then early in 2005, I ran into my old buddy Austin Rich (see The Church of Blasphuphmus (Not Jesus) Hour), who said, "Hey Kate, you ever think about getting back into radio?" to which I responded, "Uh, only like all the time". He urged me to come down to KPSU and check it out. And so here I am.

Aside from radio, in my spare time I enjoy surfing the web, making webpages, working at Studio 415, participating in The Society For Creative Anachronism, spending time with my friends and family (including being the social hostess for my group of friends), reading, and watching TV.  I am a huge fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Series, as well as Roswell, Twin Peaks, Tru Calling, Dead Like Me, Smallville, Supernatural, Medium, Veronica Mars, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Carnivale, and Charmed. My favorite colors are purple and black, and I like jesters. I like horror, scifi, fantasy, and comedy movies.  I've been called goth, but don't feel that I fit into any particular subculture.
I am indeed an ordained minister (tho not under my radio name, just under my real name).  My spiritual belief system is my own, derived from a crossbreeding of Wiccan, Christian, and Native American religions, among others.
Ok, now you know me. A little anyway. So now, you should tune into my show. :) You can hear it on the web via KPSU.org,  just click on "LISTEN", instructions will follow. Tune in Tuesdays from 3pm to 5pm! Listen to my sister Annie and me on our show Sisters Rock! on Thursdays from 8pm-9pm on the web or citywide in the Portland metro area at 1450 AM!
