A.J.
– This 9th grader at Newton North plays the bass guitar and flies
with his dad on weekend. Actually, he “glides”, as in the
thing something between a hang-glider and a plane, which is even cooler
than just pressing buttons and moving joysticks. He can ski, even if we
have to convince him, and always has a good point in God-discussions,
even if we have to pry it out of him! |
Sarah
– Poor Sarah has to go to school with her older sister,
Anna; the former being in 9th grade at Newton South. And yet she toughs
it out, and is always up for laughing and having a good time. This summer
you can catch her on the softball field, and you can hear her in the youth
choir anytime. |
Andy
– Andy runs track for Newton South, enjoying the
sprinting distances. This 9th grader digs bikes and science (probably
not at the same time), and doesn’t like Spanish (the class, presumably).
His most obscure talent, and one of the neatest anyone will ever see,
is the ability to solve a rubix cube in an astronomically short time—sometimes
under 20 seconds. Perhaps the quick decision making and dexterity will
help him in his quest to be a fighter pilot or doctor. |
|
Nic
– This senior can jam on a guitar probably better
than any of his classmates at Newton North. It’s certainly been
a helpful talent at Youth Sunday and other church events. Also, his fluency
in Spanish helped wonders on this year’s mission trip to Nicaragua.
|
Devon
– Devon enjoys 8th grade at Newton Country Day School,
and plays softball. She enjoys helping with the younger children’s
program at church (and, like Ally, they love her for it), and is the life
of any activity with which she is involved. Following in the vocal footprints
of her dad, Devon sings for the youth choir. |
Matt
– He tries to be shy about his talents, but, at least
for most folks who are good at something, it’s hard to deflect all
the glowing reviews! There is no doubt that Star Search should move this
9th grader at Walnut Hill Academy to their next level—and we’ll
see soon enough. He’s an experienced, confident performer, and has
shared his singing at church many times, to the betterment of our congregation’s
worship. |
|
Ally
– Only
a 9th grader, Ally is already a star athlete at the Fay School, excelling
at softball and track. She loves to help with the younger children’s
program at church (and we love her for doing that), and even when she’s
laughing so hard that she snorts, she’s one of our Youth Group’s
more insightful members. |
Zac
– Zac prepares for college this year at Newton
South, aiming to work in medicine. He already volunteers his Saturdays
at Newton Wellesley Hospital, in the X-Ray department, and plays golf
and tennis (a prerequisite for being a doctor, I believe). And, perfect
for his goal, his favorite subject is biology and his least favorite
is English—thereby we can probably expect horrible handwriting.
|
Anna – This 12th grader
from Newton South High School plays a mean flute, and often helps
out for Sunday services. Even though basketball star (and heartthrob,
apparently) Carmelo Anthony won’t be at Syracuse next year,
Anna Banana hopes to attend there and learn a thing or two. She doesn’t
know what to major in yet, but she’s sharp enough to do well
in anything at that or any school she wants.

Julie
– Julie is our track star, a 10th grader at Newton North,
recently making the Boston Globe All-Scholastic team |
Chelsea
– Chels’ is our dancer extraordinaire, twirling and bouncing
around the stage while attending 9th grade at Wellesley High. When her
toes aren’t squished into ballet shoes, she can be counted on to
have a thinking cap on her other end. And yet, somehow between that and
book clubs and a thousand other things, she finds time to be a great friend
to many in the youth group. |
Ben
– An 11th grader at Newton South, who is a
computer whiz. |
