Lucy Emerson got home from her day at the "Video Max." The store was busy all day. Lucy was just glad to finally be getting home. It was already late and Sam and Mike were heading off to bed. Lucy heard Sam call her into his room. Sam was lying in his bed shoving away the latest stuffed squirrel that Grandpa had made for him. Nanook his dog was asleep at the foot of the bed. Lucy said good night to Sam and was about to leave the room but Sam stopped her.
"Mom," Sam said as he motioned toward the closet door.
Lucy snapped, "Oh Sam I don't have time for this nonsense. You are 16 years old. You shouldn't be scared of the stupid closet monster."
"Sorry mom."
Lucy left feeling irritated. Sam lay there and thought to himself: mom's right. I've seen scarier things than a silly closet monster. Sam looked over at the open closet door. He didn't see anything so he put his head down and fell a sleep. As Sam slept Nanook woke in the middle of the night. He heard something moving in the closet. Nanook jumped off the bed and went over to the closet. He approached slowly sniffing the ground. Then he noticed a pair of red glowing eyes staring back at him inside the closet. Nanook whined when he saw the creature. The creature growled at him and Nanook jumped back on the bed next to Sam covering his face with his paws. The creature left his closet prison and hid in Sam's backpack.
Sam had set his alarm clock radio for 8:00am. He and his friends had planned to spend the day at the Santa Clara Beach Boardwalk. Sam's radio came on at 8:00 and he awoke from his sleep. Sam noticed that Nanook looked a little strange. Sam said, "Hey Nanook what's wrong. You like you didn't have such a good night." Nanook whined looking up at Sam. Sam looked at his dog quizzically. He got dressed grabbed his backpack and went downstairs. Sam grabbed some snacks from the pantry and threw them in his backpack. Mike had just awaked. Sam said, "Mike come on. Remember you said you'd take me to meet my friends down by the boardwalk?"
"Yeah just give me a second."
When Mike was finally ready he took Sam to town in Grandpa's car. Sam met Timandra, Edgar, Alan, Serafine, Laddie, and Terry there in front. Serafine was one of Timandra's friends and Terry was Laddie's friend. He was also the same boy that Lucy had helped find his mother when he was lost on the boardwalk during the summer. Sam and Timandra had become better friends now since they had started school. Timandra was beginning to fit in with the group now. The friends had fun playing video games going on rides and eating junk food that cost more than it was worth. Edgar and Alan noticed that the sun was going down now. It was starting to get dark. Edgar picked up Sam's backpack and said, "Hey Sam please tell me that you brought some stakes in here."
"No actually just some snacks and a change of clothes." Inside the bag the closet monster woke from his slumber as Edgar shook it.
"You didn't bring a stake?"
Alan added, "Sam are you kidding. If we're going to be out this late, you know we should always be prepared. Especially now that Treat is the mayor and has it in for you. The full moon is already out."
Sam replied, "We're in a public place with hundreds of people around. If there are any vamps around they won't feed out in the open. Trust me Treat is not a threat."
"Well actually he is if you add an 'h' after the 'T' in his name."
"We'll be fine you two so just chill out."
As Sam said for Edgar and Alan to "chill out", the closet monster began to glow inside the backpack. He laughed evilly. Edgar and Alan began to shiver a little. They put on their jackets and thought nothing of it.
Laddie told Sam that he was going to go on the "Bermuda Triangle." Serafine said she would go with him and Terry. They left and got in line.
Edgar asked, "Why did she go with them so anxiously?"
Sam replied, "Because she loves him. No probably because she just wanted to get away from you."
Again the closet monster started to glow and also got bigger. Sam didn't notice yet that it was in there though.
Laddie: "How much is this ride?"
Terry: "4 tickets."
Laddie: " '4 tickets'?! That's like two dollars. We may as well skip the ride and buy a DeLorean."
Serafine: "Well I don't think we'll have to do something so drastic. I know the guy letting people in. I'm sure he'll let us in for free."
Laddie: "Cool Serafine."
Serafine looked into Laddie's eyes and felt a strange feeling of warmth when she looked at him.
Sam and Timandra wanted to be alone so they left Edgar and Alan. In Sam's mind this was like there first date. All though Timandra wanted to take things slower. Timandra saw the fortune teller's tent that Star had told them about. The gypsy Esmeralda was an old friend of her family. Timandra persuaded Sam to go in, even though Sam didn't really believe in fortune telling. When they got in Esmeralda told Sam to sit down. She had dark gray hair covered with a red bandana and a wrinkly face. Sam tried not to stare at the wart on her nose. Esmeralda looked into her crystal ball. She said, "You will face much danger in the future Sam."
Sam replied, "What kind of trouble? And how did you know my name was Sam. Let me guess you read my mind."
"No actually Star told me what you looked like. But it is true that there is danger in your future. You will face a challenge that could cost you your life."
Sam began to get a little more interested in what the old gypsy had to say now. "This challenge? Will I beat it?"
"I can not say for certain. The vision is not clear."
"Oh how convinient. I knew this was a scam. Look Tim I'll wait for you outside."
Sam went out and Timandra now sat on the chair in front of the crystal ball. Esmeralda got a worried look on her face as her crystal ball turned black when Timandra sat down. Esmeralda now spoke with a angry fear, "It's you! You will only bring trouble. I know who you are. I know what you are trying to do. Leave Sam and his friends alone."
"No! You don't understand. I like Sam."
"If you like him so much then why don't you tell him the truth? You are evil. I know it."
"No you're wrong. You're wrong."
"Do your self a favor and everyone else and leave Santa Carla now."
"I won't leave Santa Carla but I will leave this tent."
"Then be gone. I don't want any trouble coming my way."
Timandra left Esmeralda. She found Sam outside. She looked over and saw that the "Haunted Castle" had a short line. She asked Sam to go on it with her. He agreed. Timandra just wanted to get as far away form Esmeralda as she could. She feared that Sam might hear what she was saying about Timandra.
After Timandra had gone A man walked into Esmeralda's tent. She said, "What do you want? I don;t want no trouble." It was Tobias and he grabbed Esmeralda and sucked her blood. Esmeralda fell to the ground dead. Tobias left the tent and went to folloe Timandra.
"Oh Sam I love this ride. Please let's go on it together."
"Okay, Tim let's go."
Edgar and Alan waved to Serafine in line.
"We're going to be in the store over at the end of the Boardwalk by the 'Pirate Ship'."
"Okay we'll meet you there after the ride," Serafine said.
When Edgar got in the store he immediately went looking for the sweaters. Alan followed his brother. They were both freezing. They grabbed about four sweaters each. When they came up to the counter the cashier looked at them oddly. It was 92 degrees outside and here they were buying all these sweaters.
"Are you sure you want all these?"
"Look buddy we're freezing our butt's off here okay. I think we know what we want," Alan said.
"Yeah okay. I'm sorry. I just thought because it's so hot outside. Never mind."
On the ride Serafine made sure she sat next to Laddie. She put her arm around him. Laddie moved away from her confused by her actions. She held his hand tightly as the ride spun around. After she put her arms on Laddie's shoulders and said, "Laddie, I can't keep my feelings bottled up any longer. I love you."
"What? Serafine, are you okay? You realize that you are 16 and I'm only 13 right?"
"Why should we let our age difference keep us from true love? I love you Laddie."
Terry said, "All right Laddie my man!"
"Terry, something is wrong with her."
"Who cares Lad. She's got it bad for you. I say take it."
"Terry, I can't do that. She's obviously under some kind of spell or something."
"Well then I guess we should figure out how to cure her. But if I were in this situation I'd totally take her."
"I'm sure you would. Now we first have to figure out why she is acting this way."
"Because I love you," Serafine replied.
Edgar and Alan ran around trying to keep warm. They both rubbed their bodies trying to keep warm. Then Alan said, "You know, they say the best way to keep warm is to get naked with someone and rub together to create body heat."
Edgar replied, "And you think we should do that?"
They looked at each other disgustedly. Then they said in unison, "Um no."
Sam and Timandra were next in line for the "Haunted Castle". They got in the black cart. As the cart moved through out the inside they saw all the lame "scary" scenes. Sam noticed she was wearing the bracelet he had retrieved.
"So where did you get the bracelet?"
"It was from my father. I'm really grateful that you found it when I dropped it. It was the last gift he gave me before he died."
"I'm glad I found it too. Or else maybe we may never have met."
They continued moving on the cart through the tunnels of the "scary" ride. Timandra laughed as a fake plastic werewolf jumped out in front of her. Sam leaned over to kiss Tim but they were interrupted by the laughter and screams from the people in the cart behind.
"I just wish we could be alone in here. Just us and the monsters roaming around."
"Yeah that would be nice," Tim replied.
The closet monster began to glow and grow again as Sam made his wish. The monster broke free from Sam's backpack, which he had set beside him. Sam and Tim were startled to see the monster. Sam looked around and noticed they were now in there alone. Timandra then noticed that not only did they have the closet monster to worry about, but the fake monsters on the ride began to come to life too. The closet monster was now about Sam's height. Sam said, "That's the closet monster from my room. I knew it was real."
"Do you think it is responsible for making these other monsters come to life."
"I'd bet on it."
By now Sam wished he had brought along some stakes. But he decided to make due with what he had. Sam trying to be cool said, "Don't worry Tim I've got this under control." He grabbed the safety bar on the cart and pulled on it, expecting it to break off. "Take this you freakin' closet monster." But Sam wasn't strong enough and he fell to the ground.
Timandra picked up a loose floorboard and whacked the closet monster out. She grabbed Sam by the arm and they ran away.
Serafine, Laddie, and Terry met up with Edgar and Alan. Laddie was shocked to see that Edgar and Alan were literally freezing to death. Ice was beginning to form at the tip of their hair. Edgar also noticed how Serafine was mooning over Laddie.
Edgar said shivering, "Something weird is going on isn't it?"
Laddie: "Well if you think that Serafine being in love with me is weird then yeah."
Alan: "Well what's going on. I'm freezing my"
Serafine: "Not in front of the baby. Sorry Terry he's just a little crude."
Terry: "Wait a minute, now I'm your baby."
Serafine: "No, Laddie's my baby. I just don't want your precious little ears to be degenerated. Some day Laddie and I will have a baby. Won't we dear?"
Laddie: "We had better find Sam. Fast."
Meanwhile inside the "Haunted Castle" Sam and Timandra were fighting off the monsters as best they could. All the while the closet monster was beginning to grow bigger. As a result Edgar and Alan got colder and Serafine fell more in love with Laddie. Not to mention the monsters inside the "Castle" were attacking with more force.
As they passed the "Haunted Castle" they noticed that it was closed off. Alan asked the ride engineer what was going on. He said that the ride mysteriously shut down and that there were still two people stuck inside.
Alan said, "How much you wanna bet those two people are Sam and Tim?"
The group of friends sneaked into the ride from the back. Now that the sun had gone down Tobias was able to keep a better eye on Timandra. He followed them into the ride so he could watch Timandra, and find out why Treat was so intent in watching her.
Edgar ran right into a creature. He ran away from it. Serafine kicked it down and said, "Edgar, your such a baby." They then continued through the tunnels calling out Sam and Tim's names. They finally found them fighting off all sorts of creatures and the closet monster. Sam noticed how Edgar and Alan were shivering and the frostbite that was forming on the tip of their noses. Then he saw Serafine holding Laddie's hand. He began to remember how he had said those things and that the closet monster must have caused for his friends to be in the condition they were in now. The team fought the mechanical monsters. Edgar and Alan had a hard time though since their bodies were freezing more and more every minute. The closet monster cornered Tim in an area secluded to the others. Tobias followed her. Then Tobias saw something he never expected from a girl like Timandra. The closet monster was killed. Tim saw Tobias watching her. She didn't say anything to the others though. The mechanical monsters turned back to normal. Edgar and Alan stopped freezing and Serafine realized she didn't really love Laddie. Sam ran over to Timandra and hugged her.
"Wow that was pretty cool Tim. How did you kill that thing?"
She said in a British accent, "Oh it just a little thing I like to call 'Girl Power!'"
"Come on 'Ginger' lets get outta here."
They all left the dark tomb of the ride. Tobias kept his distance being sure not to be spotted by any of the others. He now understood why Treat wanted Tim to be watched. He now knew her secret.
Sam: "So Serafine, you really thought you were in love with Laddie?"
Laddie: "You bet she did. If we had waited any longer she would have been picking out a wedding dress."
Terry: "Or worse: baby clothes."
Serafine: "Yeah okay make fun. I'm back to normal now. I must admit though, you are cute Laddie."
Laddie blushed at that.
Edgar: "Yeah well at least she wasn't freezing to death."
Sam: "Sorry about that guys. I guess when I said for you to chill out the closet monster took it too literally."
Alan: "Well its all good now. Just remind me to lock you out of the house this winter in your shorts."
Sam: "Ha ha. It doesn't even get cold in Santa Carla."
Edgar: "He got you there."
Timandra: "Well I've had fun but I really should be heading home. It's getting dark."
Sam: "Okay Tim, I'll call Mike and he can take us."
Timandra: "No that's okay. I have a ride."
Sam: "Are you sure?"
Timandra: "Yeah, I'll be fine.
Timandra left them to be alone. She was afraid if she stood around too long, they would find out her secret. And she didn't want that to happen for fear she would lose her new friends. She really cared about Sam and enjoyed being with the others. She had never had friends like them before. Her father wouldn't allow her too because she was "different."
