2003-2004 MBPL NEWS & STATISTICS
Team Bud showed up ready to play at this year's Beer Pong Tournament. After getting seated a modest #13 they battled they're way to the top, but fell short when they faced lyle & Ian who ended finishing in second place. It was a good run.

NEWS
11/17- Congratulations to the winners of The 2003 fall beer pong tournament; Team Tru Mu. They won the cash prize after beating Ian/Lyle in the finals. The MBPL is proud to be home to the first offical MLBP tournament winners. We would also like to thank the SBPL for hosting the tournament on their home feild of Sangamore. While were on the subject, the MBPL would like to unofficially announce that they will be hosting the spring tournament with a slightly different format.

11/13- On thursday night after forcing a game to overtime and attaining his first save, Liam proceeded to talk shit as if he were the golden god of beer pong. After saying: "You must be tired from carrying Miriam on your back the whole game." I replied with: "Liam I can hit this last cup and end this game again with YOU on my back." And with a 250+ lbs. Canadian on my back I called my shot and nailed it. The moment was priceless.
11/4- Melvin drops under .400, Lomo also slumps. Saturday we caught a preview for the next blockbuster. . .Return of the Bucket. $1it as he likes to go by, played well forming a 5 game dynasty with Lomo.
Independent BP Tourney is November 15th, one partner on each team must be a Brother. See Hompesch to sign up your team. Entry fee is $5 per person, $10 per team. It is scheduled to start at 1pm at Sangamore, home of the SBPL. Stats for that league are on the way, I promise. If you see someone who lives there, harass them to give me the stats.
10/27- This weekend we were graced with the presence of Mike and Josh's parents for the Beer Pong festivities. Out of nowhere, Mr. Hompesch went on a 7 game tear with his son before Mrs. Hompesch forced him to stop. Watching the father and sone game was awe inspiring. Somewhere between Mr. Hompesch's Victory Dance and his trash talking I almost died laughing. Definately One of the best beer pong nights in recorded history. Thank you AU Parent's Weekend.
In other news, me and beckwith played a best of 5 series to start off the night. As of now, we both have the same shooting percentage, so the field was very evenly matched. I took game 1 as I impressively sunk my first 6 shots. Beckwith then proceeded to take games 2 and 3, forcing a "do or die" situation for me. In game 4 I rallied to comeback and win. The same went for game 5, which allowed me to take the series 3-2. An intense match to say the least.
SBPL stats are on the way. . .
10/20- In response to our obvious domination of the Beer Pong constituents, Sangamore has announced the formation of a new League. Dubbed the SBPL, it is planned to commence within the month. Further details will be posted as they evolve. Expect to see inter-league play, integrated league leader boards, and a World Series. This activity forces me to unofficially declare the union of these leagues as MLBP, or Major League Beer Pong. Not to be confused with our Sub-League which is the MBPL, or Military Beer Pong League.
To clarify this I have provided a simple analogy. The whole thing is called MLBP (Major League Beer Pong), which is like the MLB (Major League Baseball). Just as the MLB has two separate leagues (American and National), the MLBP has two separate leagues as well. They are: MBPL - Military Beer Pong League, and the new one, SBPL - Sangamore Beer Pong League . . . Yes, I am for real.
Editors note - They may be trying to strong arm their way into the sport, but they still don't have their own merchandise like us. Thats right, you can now buy Official MLBP merchandise online at my store
HERE .
Look for more choices as soon as I get time to make more. If you have any suggestions or requests let me know. Peace.
10/13- As a result of a statement released today, Taub has been indefinintely placed on the MBPL's disabled list pending further notification. Taub, who injured himself from a high-profile alcohol consumption incident Thursday, has received much bad press on the matter and decided to take a short leave of absence. "Tru Mu" team partner Beckwith has for the meantime joined forces with the usually solo phenomenon Mike Hompesch. Together, they produced a record shattering 18 game winning streak at this weekend's past party. When asked about the impact of the sucess of team "Tru Mu," niether Taub or Beckwith were worried. "Hompesch is a fair-weather player," Taub added, admitting, "he's got amazing talent, but I'm not worried about him taking my place in the long term." Taub and Beckwith are expected to join forces again in the near future.
Fantasy Note - Taub is officially listed as questionable for the upcoming week. You might want to pick up a player to fill his spot for the time being. Surprisingly mitch stern is shooting pretty well, try picking him up off waivers.
10/08- Melvin Baird is the MBPL player of the month for October. With his late entry into the season he wasted no time racking up 579 shots and 232 completions for a shot percentage of .401. Thats good enough for #1 in the Standings. Also his 26 last cups in just 579 attempts makes him the fastest player to reach the 25 last cup mark.
In other news, I (lomo) am the first official MBPL player to reach 1000 shots. . .worship me.
Also the MBPL would like to announce it's desire to expand the league. If you think you got what it takes to be a part of the MBPL, just give us a call.
-I added a link to the league leaders statistics at the end of the stats page. Check it out.
9/29- This saturday many games were tallied. Among the most noteworthy was the showdown between Aaron Beckwith and Mike Hompesch. Being one of the table's founders, Hompesch had felt perfectly comfortable in throwing down the gauntlet for Beckwith. Bets were made, hopes were high, dreams were shattered, and Hompesch decimated the #2 shooter in the league. Hompesch came for the beer and laughs, and left with newfound respect from the MBPL. . .
Also, the 2nd annual Pike Beer Pong Tournament is at hand. Details should be coming soon. A trophy will be awarded to the winner.
9/26- In an attempt to be as unbiased as possible, an excerpt from Taub's away message: "The tenacity and endurance of their persona went [a] long way. By the night's end, it signaled that this was a team that would be around for some time. Despite being mostly neglected by MBPL stats coverage as well as disdained initially by fellow teams and fans alike, team Tru Mu pressed on. They ultimately succeeded, winning 7 straight games in a row, unphased by the sentiment of bitter and, as time would tell, lesser rivals."
Yeah it's true . . . team bud want's Tru Mu to know that they may have won the battle, but the war is far from over.
9/22- Apparently team Beckwith/Taub have taken their "flash in the pan" performance a little too seriously. They are now sporting their "Team Tru Mu" hats. Although the MBPL is proud to salute it's second officially recognized team, they have yet to prove that they can play with the best consistently . . . in other news, Karp filed suit against Beckwith for contract violations. When asked for comment Karp said, "Say it aint so Becky, say it aint so."
9/20- There have been reported sightings of team Melvin/Miriam getting themselves back in shape after a late return following the off season. Analysts say that they are still a force to be reckoned with, but Melvin the great seems to be missing a step. It's still to early in the season to tell, but my money is riding on the fact that he will prove out if given the chance.
9/14- Beckwith (A.K.A "The Barry Bonds of Beer Pong")Is the Military Household player of the month! Finally putting some points on the board this week, he is now leading the league for shot% among players with over 100 attempts.
9/14- After a huge upset earlier in the week by Team Karp/Beckwith, Team Bud resorted to some Basic training (BP for the BP) in an effort to escape their recent slump.
After some rigorous excercises and drills, Team Bud rebounded this weekend with a barrage of wins against Karp/Gill, and also a shock and awe campaign against the Barry Bonds of Beer pong himself, Beckwith and his teamate Taub. Team Bud was proud that they brought honor back to the household.
