Blood-Faced
Dream dreams of trees
In a black forest above
The smeared red canopy
Covered in blood
Climb the branches
All the way to the top
Only to realize
The thick foliage never stops
As the limbs close in on me
Slide their fingers across my breath
I kick and scream
To struggle against the fate of death
Upon the trees falls a certain mixture
Filled with letters of black
Soaked in the elixir
The branches begin to shake and crack
Until they drop from the tree
And descend into the blackness
To wait with the bars they cling
For hope that they might find mercy in God’s bliss
And I will stand and watch them die
As their breath is sucked away
For all the tears they made me cry
I will finally see the blood upon their face
