Stephen & Elisabeth in England

Thirsty Thursday's
Mood:  chillin'
Now Playing: Neurosis - The Eye of Every Storm
As this year winds it's way down, here are some random thoughts as elisabeth and I sip the last of the Christmas wine.

1) Yay! The comments are sputtering back into semi-consciousness. ... We'll engage with them starting from... Now!

2) In light of the horrible, tsunami's and Bush's laxidazical (yah, yah, I know I spelt tht rong); here's a great little piece on writing on Why GWB isn't a good Christian, so check it out. ... This is also a good link to see just how paltry Bush's ofer of 35 million $ for releif is. ... And This, I suppose show's the mindset of all those idiots who voted for Bush. ... And, finally, Here is a great editorial that puts Bush in a historical context by my favorite left-wing editorial writing guy.

3) I've >sigh< only got a day left of work and no immediate prospects but, hopefully, that will be short lived.

4)Elisabeth has found some exciting things shes going to do with her bonus but I'll let her write about them.

5) We'll be having a quiet New Year's over here - the meal plan fell apart when we realized that we could save the money we would have spent at the restaurant and eat really good food over here with it. We've also accumulated quite a few bottle of champaign and E's become very adapt at popping the cork.

6) Oooh, I bought a kick ass dictionary on discount for only 10 pounds. I. AM. A. NERD.

7) I'm also a loser who drags out his blog entries just so that he can write

8) I forget what eight was for

9) in the hopes that someone's familliar enough with the Violent Femmes so that they can get my lame joke.

Canada was slow to repond too. Paul Martin was on vacation until a couple of days ago. Plus they initially wre only going to give around 4 million. But they did agree to 40 million in aid and to match the amount dollar for dollar given by canadians, which may come out to alot.

I think you should look at the amnount that people give not the governments give. Bush may eventually be shamed into giving alot, lets see how generous the amercican people are.

35 million is kinda low, I do agree.

P.S. YOU. ARE. A. NERD.

It was a free outdoor concert. ... I think that Catherine also went to it but I didn't see her there.

Doesn't surprise me about Paul Martin - he's always been a stingy bastard who's more concerned with the bottom line than anything else (Except, perhaps, forcing Chretien out of the PMship so that he can seize control and ruin a majority government, opening Canaduh's political system to asshole Bush-lovin' right wingers. But I digress....)

And... yup, Bush has, indeed, been shamed into giving more. ... Of course, Japan's trumped him with 500 Million & the American media is ignoring the fact that Bush's initial offer was 15 mil. NOT the 35 mil. $ that he came back with after the initial outcry of "stingy."

The bookstore set up a donations bucket and people were putting 5, 10, 20 pound notes into it & were very generous. Most shops have set up collections and, when you consider how much further 1 UK pound goes, compared to 1 Micky Mouse $, that's a pretty good deal. Elisabeth convinced her boss to donate 100 pounds and we've donatd something but I don't know how much - Elisabeth takes care of our philanthropy fund.

I loooooved it when I heard that Japan donated 500 million. Eat it, Bush. Whatever makes the governments ante up is okay by me.

It's such a brutal, brutal thing, and it makes me so angry that it seems like people have to be CONVINCED to give a shit.

Keep in mind that Bush still needs to be convinced that he IS a shit. ... Your mission for today: begin the paranoid politicing: Why is Jeb Bush in Thailand? Because he's got experience with hurricanes (WTF?) or because he's preparing to succeed his brother as Bush III (WTF?!?)?
