     Real Rabindra - Sangeet

Born in a middle class Bengali family in, she grew up with two sisters and two brothers. She showed her talent in very tender age of seven when she participated in various singing competition and received many prizes. This drew attention of her parents. They took her to Late Chinmoy Chatterjee, a time honored Rabindra Sangeet expert, who introduced her to the wonderful world of Rabindra Sangeet.

She was also admitted to Gitabitan in Children’s department. She continued these trainings with her usual school life and started learning the basic concepts in music. She graduated from the children’s department after two years. After that she continued her training in preparatory course for 2 years in Gitabitan. On successful completion of the preparatory course, she joined degree course in music in Gitabitan.  

During this time she received training from stalwarts like Late Kanak Biswas, Late Nirod Sen, Late Tarun Mitra. Training from late Tarun Mitra in the final two years had metamorphosed her conception about music and singing. Late Mr. Mitra taught her the intricate details of the total ness of Rabindra Sangeet. She performed in multiple radio programs conducted by Gitabitan and trained by various personalities. She also learned basic classical Indian music and ragas from various teachers in Gitabitan. These transformed her into a real talented artist.

Besides the training in Gitabitan, she also continued her lessons from people in the field of Rabindra Sangeet outside the school.  She continued her training with Chinmoy Chatterjee till his untimely death. She attended workshops conducted by renowned singer Smt. Suchitra Mitra.  During this period , she was selected as a solo singer in multiple Giti-Natya and Nritya-Natya organized by Gitabitan in distinguished places in and around Calcutta. This was followed by training from Late Arabinda Biswas. Subsequently  she received personalized training from Mr. Ashis Bhattacharya. She graduated from Gitabitan  in 1984 with distinction. She continued to learn music from Mr. Ashis Bhattacharya, Smt. Maya Sen and others.

She was selected as a solo singer in Kabipaksha at Rabindra-Sadan and was a regular performer in the programs organized by Rabindra-Sadan on behalf of Govt. of West Bengal. Soon after she moved to New York where she quickly was recognized for her sweet voice. She performed in the puja at New York. She is now located in Merrick, NY. She is already known for her melodious voice.
