Chou Chuang is a famous philosopher in ancient China about 2000 years
ago. His ideology, Taoism still isn¨t totally comprehensible till today.
This is a shot where I was inspired by his famous dream. He once dreamt
about a butterfly, he wondered as was whom he dreamt of the butterfly or
did he appear in the butterfly's dream.
I hang the mask on the white wall; the soft focus on the mask was
intentional. The butterfly specimen was glued to a stick under the wings
and was tied to a tripod at the other end. I have to be very careful so
that I won¨t break the fragile wings. The distance from the mask to the
butterfly is approximately 4 inches. It took me more than an hour to setup
the scene. I was totally surprised and amazed on how the contour shape of
the wings harmonized with the right side of the mask. The exposure was
derived from spot-metering the wings.
