THE LEADERS:
PEOPLE WITH GREAT INFLUENCE
On the State of the Florida Department of "Corrections"

GOVERNOR, Legislators, SECRETARY of 'Corrections',
Regional Directors and WARDENS

Although the Florida legislature makes many decisions for the prison system, and their lack of insight often results in dangerous and unfair rulings, there are TWO MEN who, in my opinion, HOLD the most RESPONSIBILITY for DEHUMANIZING prisoners and tolerating CORRUPT guards inside the Florida state prison SYSTEM.

I hold them MOST accountable because their policies have allowed and encouraged the hiding of truth behind the wall of silence in our "CORRECTIONAL" Institutions.

I also assign great responsibility for conditions inside each prison to the Wardens.  They have a great deal of leeway in their policies, rules and methods. The wardens of  Gold Star prisons have a totally different outlook than do wardens at the worst institutions.

IF the Governor said - and meant, "I WILL NOT TOLERATE ABUSE IN FLORIDA PRISONS!";  or if the Secretary ordered, "ALL ABUSE WILL STOP NOW!", and meant it; or even if a warden was really determined as he told his guards, "I WILL NOT TOLERATE ABUSE IN MY PRISON!", you and I both know the abuse would STOP! or at least guard brutality really WOULD be an isolated incident.

But instead, all of them up to the end of Crosby's reign in 2006, continued to deny there even is a problem. Ex-Secretary James McDonough has been the only one who dived into the problems with an honest effort to clean out a very dirty system. We'll see what the new secretary does with his responsibility.

The ability of the prisons to COVER-UP guard CRIMES lies mostly in the hands of these three positions, WARDEN, sECRETARY of 'corrections' and GOVERNOR of the state.  They together are either GUILTY of aiding and abeiting the problems or charged with fixing them.

The highest in COMMAND always OWNS the greatest share of RESPONSIBILITY!
