The second project of the museum is to build a sexaering, based upon the design of that unearthed at the Gokstad ship burial in 1880.

• At the AVSM meeting of February 2005, Richard Amy reported that the Sexaering was nearly at the planking stage and would be completed in approximately 16 months.

• This ship will be built to maritime survey standards, enabling it to operate commercially in sheltered waters, such as the Yarra River.
