How can I help?

The Museum has a number of projects that are being developed.

These include the construction of scale replicas of the Gokstad fishing boat and longship; and the eventual building of a museum to act as a place for the public to view the fleet and as an educational facility.

Unfortunately, these projects will have to be privately financed as government funding has not been forthcoming.

Membership

Membership is $50 per annum (2003-04) and is a great way to help the Museum's community grow.

Donations

In August 2003, the Australian Tax Office approved the Museum as an income tax exempt charity and deductible gift recipient.

This means that donations to the museum are tax-deductible.

Potential donors should be aware that since July 2002 it has been possible to spread tax deductions relating to "donations of property" - a term that includes shares, real estate, artifacts and the like - for a period of up to five years. It is expected that cash will be added to this asset mix in 2005. These new rules can make donations far more tax-efficient for the donor, and also more beneficial for the recipient.

(We recommend that you discuss this with your financial adviser. Please also note that no tax deductions apply to donations from deceased estates.)

Sponsorships

The museum's financial advisers are currently working on a range of innovative products to appeal to potential sponsors. Details will be published here in due course.
