:.Explicitly Intense, July 2005.:
The following interview is done with Bolthorn...

back to interrogations list

E.I: What’s the theme behind the songs on “Unchangeable Fate”?
All tracks on the album have different subject matter, so there is not one theme..."Saga Of Redemption" is obviously having a go at the concept of sin, and you do what you seem fit regardless of consequence..."Desert Fox" (Field Marshall Rommel), "Colossal Fist" (Rise and Fall Roman Period), "Foredoomed" (Dr Faustus and his pact with the devil)...so, in direction quite similar to "The Graven Sign"...Taking appealing literature and history and bringing it to song...in a dark, tragic manner

E.I: How can fate be unchangeable when it’s controlled by an individual’s own destiny?
A world full of individuals that corrupt and slowly destroy the world...some things you cannot turn back...It's a metaphor for Armageddon which is destiny...I've used a more Northern type approach to the lyrical content...a more primitive Rangnarok/Saxon/Viking myth description...Bloodline in peril, unity becomes survival, etc etc...there is also a clear racial (not racist) theme here...

E.I: Why are the themes of anti-Christianity, warfare, destruction of the human race and misery so appealing to you?
Who knows...Just a natural thought when you write...I guess when your pumped and set the amps on ten and shred like all fuck...I can't seem to write music about lovely wholesome things...The imagery and historical fact appeals to me all so much more...and of course guns are cool...the destruction of some human filth is very appealing to me...

E.I: Don’t you think there is enough misery and despair in our world despite what is going on in Iraq, Africa and society in general?
Indeed there is misery I am unharmed by it, you need a bit of controversy, if we lived in Paradise it will be doomed anyway...there is no message I try to put through with Urgrund...the only thing that's there is the glorification of war and the need for it...in turn for evolution....

E.I: How can all of this darkness which pervades existence on a daily basis be so rewarding unless a misanthropic’s goal is the total destruction of all life?
We People are sick I guess....they are attracted to the darker side of things...when you switch on the news, people suck it in and stare...they are not only amazed but intrigued by tragedy and death...perhaps it's our nature...it's our will...

E.I: What if someone asked you, "whether if it was okay that if a lightning bolt struck and killed you or better yet crippled you for life", how would you take this?
I wouldn't be put into a weird discussion like that...But as for the question, I would deal with being a cripple and turn into a full blown alcoholic...Just accept the things I cannot change...

E.I: In your lyrics, you focus on the standing the ground one should believe in and to crush those who get in their way, so is the value you live your life by?
A lot of the time...as much as Christians obey their commandments I guess...I am influenced by a lot of will to power stuff...and arrogance...Nietzche, Ragnar, and Hitler documented this well...

E.I: Personally, is there any worth to be egotistical and selfish for one’s own gain or advancement in life?
Fuckin oath...too right...I don't give money to the poor or look for spare change to give to World Vision...life's to short...concentrate on your life and kin...Much more rewarding...let the drug addicts overdose...let the hungry starve...not my problem...I ain't helping..

E.I: So, with all of the catastrophes taking place around the globe, is it a natural thing or it’s supernatural forces holding humankind accountable for every negative thing they’ve done?
I believe it is a natural thing and it is mankind's doing, although I don't believe in karma only natural progression if we pollute the seas or overpopulate the earth it will kick us back in the ass...But then again what the hell would I know, I'm just a muso writing about stuff that interests me...I'm not religious nor have a scholarship theology or other means. So I can only speak on behalf of Urgrund music...Perhaps see a Priest...I can refer you to the answer for question 2 however, so in a lot of ways perhaps yes.

Cheerz for the interview...got some very confronting questions about life there mate...

Salute ,
