1) Judging? --- Please help me by judging my actions, but don't judge my heart. If I recognize some way that I need to change and then improve, I will be most grateful!
2) What about Shakespeare? --- Shakespeare is dead. (Jesus is alive!) Today's authors have a hard enough time without competing with the dead. And they can be just as good if not better! Teens might temporarily relate to Shakespeare, but his is not the lifestyle of their choice. Nor was/is it of Jesus.
3) When the language of a Bible which we use becomes different from how we speak today, should we get a new Bible then, too? --- YES, our stewardship should not make God "soundeth" more worldly, dead, than the world.
4) KJV English can't be bad. It is the way that I came to know God. --- You came to know God as keeping human tradition? That is as valid as coming to know God through any false cult's teaching. While you may well be Christian, you can also be deceived.
5) I'm 73. --- Let's see. You've got 73 years of relating to God with KJV words. God has an eternity of relating with the word of the present. Either way, it's going to be hard to change. Whom do you think should?
6) If the King James version was good enough for my Lord it's good enough for me! --- "Was good enough" is a key phrase. I AM is "Always good enough". We cannot be good enough without the Word of God, Jesus(John 1:1,14). Was good enough is not good enough. That which IS good enough is the only good enough.
7) You understand what the KJV English means! --- (I agreed, so this one took quite awhile.) I also understand the words used in lies/cursing, but I also refrain from these words which are just as ungodly.
8) I don't think using the KJV of the Bible is wrong. --- Having God soundeth so silly IS wrong.
9) Many are just more comfortable with things that are familiar. --- Galations 2:20 - Wouldn't we be better off dying to ourselves and living the Word of God?
10) However, I think your view of the KJV could cause others to stumble. --- I hope that those whom are "saved" stumble from foolishness.
11) I don't use KJV English, only quote it in scripture. --- Here described in inaction is hypocrisy. We must live our faith. Along with several others, I challenged the person whom made this statement to "speaketh thou like this for several months/years and you will see how foolish this bad habit is." But I doubt if he will consistently try it for even just a few days because it is so foolish.
12) According to the parable of the sower, it is not the seed that counts, but the soil. --- If an atheist finds a seed that God's grace is not sufficient and that he will have to go to Purgatory, like Paul, Galations 3:1, we should clarify such foolishness.
13) "todays language is cold, irreverent, generic, fluctuating, shallow....hardly personal" --- Good adjectives to describe a world that needs Jesus. Not personal? It certainly does describe our personal environment.
14) A true Christian would not bash anothers web site for trying to spread the word of god no matter what version of the Bible is being used. --- Here, someone says that I am bashing their website; not so, but the distorted Word of God.
15) I notice you advertise for criticism and debate, why? To what end? --- ( #159 in my second guestbook left this and IllogicalExcuse #14. They left no way of knowing who they are.) Josh McDowell tried to criticize/debate Christianity. "Evidence That Demands A Verdict", a book he wrote defending Christianity, was the result.
16) "Jesus disciples did not ask him to explain the parable of the weeds and the wheat to them. That sir is a lie. The truth is they asked Jesus to explain the parable of the tares and the wheat." (Matthew 13) --- Weed(Webster's Illustrated Contemporary Dictionary, Encyclopedic Edition): "1) Any unwanted or unsightly plant, esp. one that hinders the growth of cultivated plants." A tare surely sounds like a weed to me!
17) I use several translations. --- And you still choose to deny God's ever-present style?
18) There are still some that speak in KJV English. --- I have already been told that the Amish still do. The claim is false that the Amish of today normally speak in KJV English.
19) In your opinion will the version of the bible you use determine whether you go to hell or heaven? --- When Saul of Tarsus was persecuting Christians he was giving hell to the church. Fortunately, faith in the Lamb of God's sacrifice is the only factor to determine if one is good enough to go to heaven. Luke 9:62, NLT- But Jesus told him, "Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God." Old English keeps one looking back.
20) I don't "live" KJV English because I don't live in the past. --- Everybody prefers people as they are, non-hypocritical. Keeping Christianity in the past with old English is a stumbling block to worldly behavior without old English.
21) THOU ART WORTHY is a good song. --- God's words are living, much better than the words of dead people. The Choice Is Yours.
22) The language of the KJV is the most accurate. --- Scribes and pharisees preferred the "accurate" to the personal. Some old English words which are contrary to their present meaning.
23) I Corinthians 1:27, KJV: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; --- Maybe I should consider passing out gospel tracts in the middle of a busy highway during rush-hour traffic. That's something the world would consider foolish, too.
24) If you can back up your stand and beliefs from God's Word, then I will listen to you, otherwise you are simply going by your personal feelings and nothing else, and I won't be swayed by that. --- Since the verse doesn't exist that 3*6=18 this person is saying that they don't believe in common sense. And where is the verse that the KJV's archaic English style is authorized forever? (It's not even "olde" English as it was in 1611.)
25) The NIV omits some words/verses. --- Newer translations From USB aka. Nestle-Aland aka. Westcott/Hort compilation of manuscripts. This text is taken from earlier, therefore more reliable manuscripts. The most reliable manuscript that we could have is the actual hand-written copies by the writers of scripture themselves. Since we don’t have those, the next most reliable would be the first copy of the original, then the second copy, and so on. These Greek text families are dated two centuries earlier than the Byzantine scripts used in KJV translation. The biggest omission is by not accepting the living word, the way that Jehovah was revealed as Jesus.
26) Actions speak louder than words. --- James does say how powerful the tongue is. Words are themselves powerful actions.
27) I believe that it is important to keep the "old dialect" alive and available as it does serve to really FORCE people to STUDY the word. (Robert Young, Christian sociologist, is proud of saying this and wants credit for it. His webpage URL is http://ryoung001.homestead.com/) --- This is an excuse to be lazy. One will make a lot more sense studying words of their language. NOBODY should be forced to study foolishness.
28) Unless you can clearly back up that God prefers one version of Scripture to another, I don't want to hear what you have to say. --- The verse that God prefers a version written in the words of the 21st century to those living in the 21st century follows the verse that God prefers a version written in Russian/Chinese/Hungarian to those living in Russia/China/Hungary.
29) I am a KJV only person. --- Then why do your daily actions testify otherwise (absent of KJV English)?"
30) The Old English version is slightly more reliable since it was an earlier translation. --- The earliest translation was the original with the New Testament being written in the "koine" Greek, the language of the common people. Since Old English is no longer common it is quite out of context.
31) If someone reads "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet" and another reads "Your word is a lamp under my feet" is one being hypocritical when both believe the SAME MEANING conveyed by the message? --- If these words meant the same thing, we'd speak so today. Words can be hypocritical of actions.
32) If it ain't broke, don't fix it. --- Your actions show that KJV English is broke.
33) God understands all forms of language. --- Really? God can interpret hypocrisy, but I don't think it is understood. We have a better choice.
34) i would rather use a version of the scriptures which is as near a translation to the original tongues as can be achieved --- Original tongues - the original tongue of the New Testament used the koine Greek, the language of the common people. Common people speak in words common to today, not words common to centuries gone by.
35) it's just a matter of preferences with the bible and everyone is entitled to theirs - doesn't make them right or wrong. --- you are entitled to any version of jesus that you chose? specifically, one who is personal and speaks in the style of people of his day and one who speak as they did centuries ago.
36) there are people who hear God speak to them in many ways. --- God was revealed as Jesus since God wants to have a personal relationship with us. You hear a false god when god speaks in ways that are contrary to this desired communication.
37) In our many surveys and most recent, the KJV still remains the most widely used translation, and still the most accepted. Far better to use a translation that the majority will read. --- Most used? Much better is a translation that the majority will live. Or are we to be readers only?
38) In I Samuel 9:11 we are going to run into an archaic word, "seer". But, before we do, God puts a parenthesis in the narrative (verse 9) to tell us about it. Thus we see that God Himself through the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit used verse 9 to explain the upcoming archaic word but did not change the holy text! We should leave the archaic word in the text. This is what God did! --- God merely reported that there were people whom spoke archaic words. The relevant explanation was given so that the text would be understood. But God never uses archaic words and neither should we.
39) Many have been won to Lord in Many translations, and many will continue to be won. --- There are some that say that many are won by the New World Translation, also.
40) Hypocrite means "false face". How is using early modern English in any way presenting a false face? --- Notice the word, "using." If use, one's actions, were consistent with one's faith there would be no hypocrisy. The hypocrisy appears when actions are contrary to one's face.
41) Might I suggest that you take to heart the things that the Apostle Paul writes at 1 Cor. 9:18-27. --- What is the reason given for Paul's behavior? v.22: to save some. Excuse me, but this HYPOCRITICAL behavior is practiced by those already claiming to be saved. To reach the lost for Jesus, let's conform to their language of today.
42) each translation coming upon the market does not by definition become better, or easier to understand then the previous version just because it is "new". --- Is the Christian to continue in imperfection or to strive for perfection?
43) It is not the words as much as the meaning. --- Gibberish may not have meaning, but the Word of God most certainly does.
44) I have seen too much good come by using the KJV. --- Much good has also been accomplished by airplanes. They still crash with defective engines though.
45) the use of 'THY' is far more apt than say, merely 'you' -- when referring to GOD ALMIGHTY. --- Whom does "Thy" refer? To the god of the past. The same yesterday, today, and forever, I AM is always of the present.
46) I am from another country and do not have a modern version available. --- If you know English, it's easier than you realize. Online, you can copy and paste at http://www.biblegateway.com/.
47) Would it be hypocritical for a non-Greek scholar to carry around a Greek Bible? --- No. There is a purpose, scholarly research for example. Except for sentimental foolish reasons, there are no reasons to carry a KJV Bible.
48) I don't want there to be division. --- James 10:10, NKJV: The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. If pastors wanted their flock to witness abundant life, would they encourage KJV communication always, sometimes for Christian activities, or never? Is the evil One destroying us with them?
