Manning Austin Day, my great grandfather, lived in
Cherokee County and was born 1838ish. He enlisted in Company G 23rd GA
Infantry and fought in Colquitt's brigade in the war. He was married to Sara
Elizabeth McClure and they had a son William A. Day born in Acworth GA
Dec.23rd, 1884. Other sons were Claude, Charlie and Pete. Having located
Manning in the Cherokee County list of Confederate Soldiers, and having his
civil war papers in hand, I have a good fix on his home, and age. There was
an A.Day (I think this was actually Oswell, who apparently was known as
Austin in some family trees) in the Cherokee Census of 1850 and
unfortunately the census taker only used initials, but there is a M.A. Day
in the house that would be Manning's age. I am searching for more
information on Oswell, Manning, Oswell's children and any Days in Cass, now
Bartow County, Pickens, Cobb and Cherokee County. I have gotten lots of
leads, info, anecdotes and census data from other researchers here online.
