One story provided by a family historian of the 1930s:
Samuel's parents were John Day and Martha Nichols and
his wife was Margaret Cohagen. Margaret Cohagen's parents
were Alec Cohagen and Leka, daughter of a Cherokee Chief
(Lou Day provided no proof.)
Another family historian has listed in the Sons Of The Revolution,
that Samuel's parents were Leonard Day and Tabitha Barker.
Samuel Day was born in 1757 (recorded on his tombstone)
and died May 11, 1820 (recorded in his will.) His wife,
Margaret Cohagen was born in 1764 (recorded on her tombstone)
and died May 22, 1837 (recorded on her tombstone.)
It is still unclear when or where they married but it was
between 1880 (when Samuel mustered out of the Revolutionary War)
and 1786 (when their first known child Ransom was born.)
One source says they were married in Guilford Co., NC and
another Petersburg, VA. This is still unverified information.
Samuel was given a Virginia Military Land Grant for having
served in 1778/79 in the 14th VA Regiment. He settled on
the Upper Tract on the west side of the North Fork River
at Clay Lick in Pendleton County on 150 acres. They are
believed to have been there in the late 1780s when it was
Hardy County, but Sims Index proves they were there in 1796.
He and Margaret sold their land in October 1805 to
John Dolly and moved to Ross County, Ohio and settled near
what is now called Concord Township, near Frankfort, Ohio
where they are buried in the Day Cemetery.

with Aunt & Uncle Ben Day - In March they moved to Maloney
farm, 620 acre, in 1881 and in spring of 1882 moved to
Thos. Wright farm. Dad died in March there - dropsy.
Geo died with Bright's disease.
