Mrs John Davidson of Lynxville, Mrs E.M. White of Seneca and a son in the far west.
Burial in Dickson Cemetery." Mrs. John Davidson is her daughter Luella, Mrs E.M.
White is her daughter, May Manora, and the son in the "far west" was her son, W. Elfonso Day
who was residing in Mitchell County, Iowa.

Although Lucy's death certificate lists her father's first name as Johnson, she was the
sister of Sanford C. Prince, who was found in the 1850 census, Dane Co WI, for the household
of Johnathan and Nancy Prince in Dane County. Lucy had married in 1848 and was out of the
household. The informant for the death certificate of Sanford C Prince was Lucy's son,
Warren Elfonso Day, Sanford's nephew. Both Lucy and Sanford lived in the Lynxville area
and both are buried there in Dickson Cemetery.

          b. 1858, Augusta, Maine169; d. 16 Nov 1903, Mitchell Co. Iowa.

Notes for NEWELL FLONELLER DAY:
Grave marker. Dickson Cemetery Lynxville Wisc. Due to wear and mosses growing on it
the marker was hard to read. At first thought his birthday was in 1853, but when computed
age spelled out on stone, it was 1855. The entire inscription on the stone reads as follows:
"In Memory of Newell F. Day, Born Nov. 13, 1853, Died Mar. 8, 1894, Aged 38 y's 3M's & 23 d's.
A Precious one from us is gone. A voice we loved is stilled. A Place is vacant in our house,
Which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled, The boon His love has given,
And though the body slumbers now, The soul is safe in heaven." At the bottom is a large DAY.
However, the 1860 census has him as one year younger than Elfonso, so 1853 would be correct.

His wife returned to Iowa after his death and died nine years later, leaving their two
children Winnie and Warren Day orphans. Newell had been an investor in real estate,
owning property in Lynxville, the island the Day family farmed opposite Lynxville and lots
in Chicago. An administrator was appointed by the probate court in Iowa. Unfortunately the
admin. thought the taxes of $12 per year were too high, so the lots in Chicago were sold for
almost nothing. Fortunately, their uncle Elfonso (W.E. Day) handled the property in the
Lynxville area giving them rents to live on.

All the family of Wm W Day and Lucy (Prince) Day are in the Dickson
cemetery except May (Day) White who is buried with her husband, Eugene M White in
the Evergreen Cemetery at Medford, Taylor Co, Wisconsin . (JMNelson 8/2000)

Notes for MAY MANORA DAY:
Grandma White was born in Osage Iowa. However, some time in the 1880's the family moved
to a farm on an island directly opposite Lynxville Wisconsin where Grandma said she grew up.
During the summer, they would row to town, but in the winter, they could walk across the
frozen Mississippi River. Apparently the island was owned by their son, Newell, who was
sixteen years older than May, as it was part of the property sold in the guardianship of
his children. Newell died in May, 1894. His father, William Williams Day, died five months
earlier in Dec 1893. Her father is buried in the Lynxville, Dickson Cemetery with his wife,
Lucy, as is Newell.
I found May again in the 1900 census for Seneca & Lynxville, with her spouse, Eugene M White
and daughter Myrle.
(JMNelson 9/2/2000)

Grandma told me she remembered when she was a little girl there was a huge volcanic eruption
somewhere and the sky where she lived in Iowa was darkened by it for days and that ash from it
came down on them. When I learned about the Krakatoa eruption which happened in August 1883,
she told me that was it. She was eleven at the time.

and Julia L. Spear.

DeSoto Wisc is on boarder of Vernon Co with Crawford County and was formerly in Bad Ax County
which was merged with the other two counties. Will search in Crawford Co records.
Farm outside of DeSoto may have been over boarder in what is now Crawford Co. (

Marriage Notes for MAY DAY and EUGENE WHITE:
May and Eugene White went to Yellowstone Park for a honeymoon after the spring thaw.
Grandpa was rather well off, and owned a new auto in which they made the trip. Per Grandma,
it's top speed was about 24 miles per hour. They enjoyed Yellowstone Park and the
Lodge very much. They were cautioned never to get between one of the numerous grizzly bears
and her cubs. However, one day they drove down a road where a mother bear had a cub up a
tree on each side of the road. The Grizzly took after them. Grandma May told me she was
yelling for Gene to "Go faster, Go faster!" as the grizzly was catching up to them.
He calmly remarked, "Can't. It's to the floor now." Grandma said the bear was almost
up to them when it suddenly stopped and turned back to its cubs.

Oliver EF Day made his will on November 24, 1906. It was filed on May 1, 1908 in
Book V pg 589 of Kootenai County ID. It is in the Misc Index. He left only $1.00 to
his son Joseph T Day and nothing is mentioned for Joseph's son, Ralph Leroy, who was
adopted by his maternal grandfather, surname Shotwell. The bulk of the estate went to
Oliver's daughter, Alissa R Wells, and her dtr, Amy. His son John must have already
died, as his rifle was given to Oliver's daughter, Mary Copsey plus $1.00. He did not
exclude Alta Delphine with a $1.00 legacy either, so she had died by 1906. Using
process of elimination, Elvira, his wife was already dead, as not mentioned in the will.
Small bequests were made to his male grandchildren, Benjamin and Joseph Wells.
(See in scrapbook)

And Elmira in Sept 1930 NY.
In the 1845 Census for Chautauqua Co, NY, there were two Comstock Families,
head by ASA or Orsino or Trurman Comstock:
COMSTOCK, ASA 4 3 9 1 2 0 0 0 0 0 1 3 5 0 0 0 0 0 7 4 1 0 4 3 0

#3 is number of females in hh and 12 is number of unmarried females 16-45, # 13 is
unmarried females under 16, hence Orsino and Truman are eliminated as possible parents.
Asa had 9 females in household and 3 age 16-45; while 5 were under 16. Elmira would
have fit in the later catagory.

Notes for JOSEPH T DAY:
Joseph J Day is listed in his parent's household in the 1900 federal census at Belgrove,
Kootenai Co Idaho as a divorced farmer. In earlier censuses found as Joseph M and G,
but in his father's will, he is listed as Joseph T Day.

In the Civil Index Kootenai County 1882-1910 is listed his divorce:
DAY, Grace Edna (PL) vs DAY Joseph (DF). Film F16-CV (OM) 131 Case # 908-CV filed 1898.
Therein, he signs his name as Joseph T Day.

The couple were in court to determine custody of their child, Ralph Leroy Day, who was in
the custody of his father at the start of the actions in 1898. Apparently he had abducted
Ralph from Grace. Joseph would not agree to her having custody and vice versa. A final
agreement was made for Joseph to relinguish custody of his son to his father-in-law,
Edward H Shotwell, but only on condition that Mr Shotwell show proof of filing for adoption
of Ralph. With that action, he relinguished all rights to his son. Grace Edna resumed
her maiden name. Final decree of divorce was in December, 1899 when Ralph was "abt three
and one fourth years" of age.
