George Day, born c 1795 either in Maidstone or Tonbridge, but no definite info.
Born 18th March 1822 he married Ann Beecham of
Allington or Addington a villiage in tghe Maidstone area.
A marriage certificate has been sighted..
3rd June George & family sailed from Gravesend in vessel ARAB to
Wellington, New Zealand.
After 4 years in that area he moved because of earthquakes, to Christchurch. He built the first
hotel in a suburb of Christchurch and became a well known and
respected entity.
In all he had 14 children although several of
them died at birth or whilst young.
One son became a boat builder, another was a member of the local Life Boat crew and
eventually became the captain, a respected position he held for
many years. As you may imagine
with so many children Christchurch is blessed with many Day's but no one has any
information concerning George's U.K. family, although
many would like to know.
My interest stems from the fact that from very clear photographs, son Joseph (the life boat captain)
and I could be identical twins.
You will appreciate the fact that about 100 people in Christchurch and myself are anxious
to obtain any information as to George's origins.
I look forward with great interest any info anyone can give me.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Day
