129. FINLEY4 DAY (WM.3, EDWARD MITCHUM2, THOMAS1) was born January 22, 1845 in Watauga, Blue Ridge Township, North Carolina, and died October 30, 1934. He married JOSEPHINE WATTS November 25, 1869. She was born Abt. 1848 in Watauga, Blue Ridge Township, North Carolina, and died Unknown. Children of FINLEY DAY and JOSEPHINE WATTS are: i. WILLIAM WALTER5 DAY, b. Abt. 1871, Watauga County, North Carolina; d. June 06, 1935, Crab Orchard Township, Meck. County, NC; m. (1) SARA SANDERS; b. North Carolina; d. Unknown; m. (2) NELIA F.; d. Unknown; m. (3) NORA BELL LAWS, Unknown; b. May 08, 1898, Avery County, North Carolina; d. June 07, 1937, Thomasboro Township(Paw Creek) Charlotte, N.C.. Notes for WILLIAM WALTER DAY: When he came to Charlotte with Nora Laws, she did not know that he had these children until their mother passed away and they were sent for them to raise. I don't know who their mother was. ** I later found this to be untrue, as stated in a 1920 Federal Census Report. These children were living with Nora & William in Caldwell County.** The death certificate obtained contradicts all the information about him through Social Security death reports obtained through Borderbound Family Tree Software. It has his date of birth as Jan. 22, 1873. It states that he was 58 when killed by the train on Feb. 06, 1931, but the Federal Census taken in 1920 states that he was 55. The informant for the Death Certificate was Sarah ?Wilib? (unreadable). The death certificate states that he was struck by train while walking in same direction was runaway. The undertaker was Newell McEwen and he's buried at Newell Baptist. A.G. Caldwell of Newell signed the death certificate. Taffert (son) drove granny and their mother along with the rest of the family to the location where he was killed by the train in a wagon. The newspaper clipping says that he didn't hear the train coming. The stories told were that it took the back of his skull off. They were supposed to have carried him in parts in a bag. Granny was about 11 and Ella Mae was abt. 8. They were both there to see this. The newspaper article states that he had just finished loading a train and went to get the bill of lading when he was struck from behind. The accident happened at 9:30 am. He was struck by a Southern Railways Passenger Train. His trade or occupation was farming, worked in a saw mill, and did logging. The article in the paper says that he only had 12 children, but 16 has been determined or mistaken relationships have been made. More About WILLIAM WALTER DAY: Cause of Death: Train killed him Notes for NORA BELL LAWS: After obtaining her death certificate, her birthday states May 08, 1895 on the death certificate obtained at the court house in Charlotte, NC. But Federal Census taken in 1920 shows her to be 22. Which makes her birh year 1898. She lived in the township of Paw Creek. It lists also Township of Thomasboro, which is where Granny raised us. On the same street, 929 Cantwell Street. She died at 2am. She was 40 yrs old, by the birth year on the death certificate. Cause of death states uterus (assume uterine cancer). Dr. H.C. Layor from Charlotte stated on the certificate, that he attended her from May 22, 1935-June 06, 1935. She is buried at Elmwood. The undertaker (by what I can read) was Terxton Funeral Home of Charlotte, NC. Her job title was listed as Domestic. It was earlier thought that Nora didn't know he had these other children, but she undoubtly did. Because the Census Report shows they were living with her in Caldwell County. Somehow there was two boys, Tafford & William, that were 18 yrs old at the same time. I found it surprising that Nora's step-sons were only 4-yrs younger than her. ii. JAMES"JIMMIE" DAY, b.
