Little is known of Isaiah Cates Day before he arrived n Liberty Co Texas
other than his birth in 1812 in Shelby Co , Tn.
His mother was Mary Cates. She came to Texas from Tn. where her husband had
been before his death. We do not know his first name.
Isaiah Day was married to Rachael Whitlock who was the mother of Mary
Elizabeth Day, ( Mrs L. Clay Chambers) Amanda Louisiana Day,
( Mrs. Lafette Ridley) and James Day.( Who died unmarried) When
Rachael Whitlock died , I.C. Day remarried. Martha Caroline Munson
whose family, along with the Whitlocks is listed inthe 1826 census of
the Atascosita District which was West Liberty Co. Texas, an early
settlement of S.F. Austin and his father , Moses.
Martha Caroline Munson died following the birth of their second child who
also died. The child She and Isaiah Day had was Martha Emilie Day Davis who
married Joseph William Davis. Davis was a graduate of the baptist college
whch became Baylor University, He was also a thirty second degree Mason, who
was born in Desoto La. to Moses Davis and Amanda Baldwin. Their children
were citizens of Texas and of Dayton , the city named for Isaiah Cates Day.
My grandmother, Mannie Willis Davis Bradshaw, was his granddaughter and one
of these children.
I would appreciate any ties to my Day family that would lead to our finding
the father and grandfather of Isaiah Day.
Thank you,
Jane Matthews Of Texas
