3 Generations of Descendants of Nicholas Day
---------------------------------------------
First Generation ================ 1. Nicholas Day was born about 1620 in , WALES. He died before 4 Feb 1704/5 in , Baltimore Co., MD. Year of birth is very uncertain and comes from a database compiled by Gene Blair in November 1993. Abt 1640 seems more likely. See also: http://www.calweb.com/~wally/darke/w-day1.htm Barnes' BALTIMORE COUNTY FAMILIES 1659-1759, p. 161: "the progenitor, was in Balto. Co. by 1699 as a taxable in n. side Gunpowder Hund.; d. by 4 Feb. 1704/5 ... left tract William the Conqueror to son Nicholas..." SLADE Family researcher John Pearce Jr (deceased) adds that "William the Conqueror" adjoined "Verdant Valley". Other unplaced Day entried in Barnes' BALTIMORE COUNTY FAMILIES..., p. 163: "DAY, Humphrey, was in Balto. Co. by 1692 as a taxable in n. side Patapaco Hund., and d. by 3 Aug 1698 when admin. bond was posted by Thomas Smith with John Lakins and W. Farfar; est. was inv. 9 Aug 1698 by John Terip and Robuck Lynch and val. at L35.0.0" "DAY, Mary Elizabeth, dau. of Bridget Others, b. 31 Mar 1707" "DAY, Thomas, ran away from Balto. Town in Feb 1759" ...from GENERAL LAND OFFICE PATENTS, Land Commissioner's Office, Annapolis, MD, Lib. Q, Fol. 70, Feb. 22, 1658... "Nicholas Day, a grown man sells himself into 'slave Bondage' for 'ship transportation' to the New World where he could get free land and own home. He with John Wilkinson, Benjamin Glover, John Walker, Robert Chaney, Elizabeth Gaibe, Catherine Roads, and William Stanley were bound to Richard Owens who granted them their freedom and notified his 'Lordship Grace', the Crown of England that they were entitled to 50 acres of land." June 6, 1693, purchased 200 acres called "William the Conqueror" at Gunpowder Falls for 1200 Pounds of tobacco. November 5, 1693, bought 150 acres called "Lesser Chance" from Thomas Bruins of Baltimore Co. for 3000 pounds of tobacco. Nicholas Day was taxed for lands north of the Gunpowder River from 1699-1706 (Clark: BALTIMORE CO.,MD, TAX LISTS, 1699-1706, pp 3, 8,16,23, 41,51, 59.)
