Super Hits
It all started when Junoon released their first video on Ptv (Pakistan television),in a musical programme Music Channel. The song was Chori Chori from their debut album. It was Nusrat Hussain instead of Brian O' connel, at that time. In the second episode of Music Channel, Junoon again appeared with Neend Ati Nahin, a video with clips of their concerts and with Ali moving around insearch of 'neend'. Salman, then appeared in a Mega Hit drama serial 'Aahat'. Aahat played an important role in providing media support to Junoon, the soundtrack of aahat was also composed by Junoon. It was really liked by all, even those who were not interested in Junoon or music.
After the arrival of Talaash, Junoon released the title song, talaash with very brilliantly directed video. The video was also appreciated by Mtv and remained on the charts for some time. It was fallowed by the video of Woh, directed by Bilal Maqsood. Third video from 'talaash' was Ne Heeray. Ne heeray faced lot of criticism. The video resembled typical western rock n'roll. Ali with torn old jeans shouting and screaming, Salman wearing shirwani standing on some wrecked car, Brian holding guitar and jumping up & down, , camera revolving around each of three. I still remember the day when one of the leading newspaper of Pakistan those days rated Junoon as the worst band of the year.
A musical programme named, "Young Tarang" invited Junoon. Junoon sung their super hits in an artifical set. Even then the response was not satisfactory. After that, realizing the intense need of media coverage, Junoon appeared in telefilm, "Talaash", directed by Atiqa Odho. The direction of talaash was very weak but the story and to some extent acting gave it a lot of fame. Talaash, was infact a musical drama, which included super hits of Junoon. The Junoon succeeded in attracting the viewers by bringing in the clips of their upcoming super hit, "mera mahi".
Ilteja was the first song from Inquilaab which was filmed. The group members did not came in front . The whole video reflected the tense conditions and extra judicial killings in Karachi. Junoon then step forward with a mega hit album, Inquilaab. Inquilaab provided Junoon what the band really deserved.
At that time Pakistan was hosting Cricket World Cup 97, and Pakistan team was defending its title. Realizing the importance of time, Junoon released the video of Jazba Junoon, a fully patriotic song, which presented Cricket players as the national heros. The jazba junoon recieved very positive response from the whole nation. It also supported Inquilaab a lot. Junoon then released second video from Inquilaab, "Saeein". The song itself proved successful and its video was also appreciated.
From Kashmakash, the controversial hit "Ehtesaab", was although filmed but was later on not allowed to telecast. Junoon did not made the video of "Mujhe Insaaf do", but the only pop musical programme of Pakistan (VCD), are these days showing the song, copied from "Jazba junoon weekend"
