Chapter 13

Brynn tripped over a pair of Zac's clunky black shoes and kicked them to the back of the bus where Taylor was sitting. "Dammit..." She muttered. Then she smiled at Taylor and stood in front of where he was sitting on the couch. She reached forward and ran her fingers through the front of his hair, smoothing it down. "Your hair is still sticking straight up. You know, if you wouldn't sleep flat on your face, that wouldn't happen."

Taylor smiled and put his hands around her waist. He pulled her toward him, turning her around. She fell down so that she was sitting next to him, his arms around her. "I have to tell you something."

Brynn nodded and leaned back, placing her head on his chest. "Go ahead."

"I'm really happy you're on tour with us. It gets really boring and lonely traveling with just my brothers to keep me company." He paused for a moment. "You make me really happy." He sat forward a little, turning so he was facing Brynn. She sat up as well. "I guess... I know we haven't known eachother for very long, and there's probably a million things I don't know about you, but what I do know, I really love..."

Brynn smiled. "I really like you too, Tay." She said, summing up her feelings in 6 words, something Taylor still hadn't mastered.

He grinned. "I was actually wondering if... Damn this is hard." He sighed.

"Taylor, are you trying to ask me out?"

He nodded slowly and then looked into her eyes. "It's just hard because I haven't asked many girls out before. I mean, I have... but it was different. I've asked girls out on dates before. You know? I guess... what I'm trying to say is... At the risk of me sounding incredibly cheesy and ... well ... 12, I'd really like it if you'd be my girlfriend."

Brynn smiled and leaned forward, kissing him lightly on the lips.

"It's not exactly the best position in the world. I want us to be together more than anything but I have this little problem."

"What's that?"

"I can't promise you a whole lot."

"I'd never ask you to."

"It's just that there will probably be times when I can't hold you hand or have my arm around you in public, but in those cases, just know that I probably really want to..."

"I know."

"...Because there's some crazy girls out there and if they saw me with my arm around you, they might hurt you, and I don't want that to happen. I would do anything to protect you."

Brynn put her finger against his lips. "Taylor, I know. And I'm not a premature puppy or a porceline dish. I don't need to be protected and I won't break if you drop me."

He sighed and nodded. "I just don't want you to be overwhelmed. I want us to be a real couple, and there's probably a whole lot that goes along with that. I haven't really experienced a lot of it, so I can't tell you first hand."

"I can handle it."

Taylor smiled. "So I wasn't really listening, was there a 'yes' in there somewhere?"

"Yes." She laughed and put her arms around him in a hug. "But I'm serious about the porceline dish thing, I'm not as fragile as I look. And I've been around freakish fans. I know what to expect."

He hugged her back and then gave her a passionate, yet gentle kiss, feeling happier than he'd been in a long time.

Zac sighed and walked slowly back to the front of the bus. He sat down on the couch there, next to Holly. "Yep. My life sucks."

"Zac, you didn't even go back. What were you doing?" Holly asked, ready to push him to the back of the bus and confess his feelings for Brynn.

"Eavesdropping." He grumbled.

"Ok... continue." Holly poked him on the side as he stared at the wall.

"Taylor asked Brynn out."

"They're a couple?"

"It's official. Zac is doomed to a life of solitude."

Holly frowned. "Aww." Zac sighed and fell to the side, his head landing on Holly's leg. Holly laughed and softly pet his head. "Zac, look on the bright side..."

"And the bright side would be where?"

Holly shrugged. "At least you have shiny shiny shoes." She nodded, looking down at his maroon, patent leather Dr. Martens.

Zac rolled his eyes.

"No, I'm serious, I'd kill for shoes like those. It's like, Dorothy meets Bozo the clown meets... Zachary Hanson. Coming soon to a circus freak show near you."

Zac laughed. "You're really funny."

"It's my mask." She smiled and Zac rolled over onto his back, gazing up at her.

"You don't need a mask."

Holly shrugged. "Maybe not. But I'm more comfortable with it."

Zac grinned. "Do you like my brother?"

"Taylor? Ew. No."

Zac laughed. "Isaac."

"I don't know. Why?"

"I just wondered. He's a flirt. And I guess I just don't want you to get hurt."

Holly nodded and looked down at Zac. "He has a girlfriend, doesn't he?"

Zac bit his bottom lip and nodded. "They aren't very serious. The thing is, it's long distance and I guess at this point he's not sure whether he wants to stay with her or...I'm really not supposed to be telling you this, so I'll shut up.

"He should stay with her."

"Huh?" Zac muttered, staring up at her.

Holly stared out the window and continued to pet Zac's head. "Just because it's long distance doesn't mean it won't work out and I'm not the type of girl to come between two people. I just won't do it. So tell him, he should stick with her and not worry about me. I'm cool with being friends." She laughed lightly. "He is a total flirt. He should definitely watch that. Fans could get the wrong idea."

Zac smiled. "You're really sweet."

Holly smiled and whispered. "Watch out though, I can be a real bitch."

"I doubt that." Zac smiled back and closed his eyes.
