The Date

Taylor straightened his black pleather jacket and grabbed Isaac's hand. He pulled it over to him and looked at his watch. "Five after... so where are they?"

Isaac, who was wearing dark blue jeans and a black, high neck, sweater, shrugged. "Calm down, man. They'll be here. So what does this Holly person look like?" He asked, referring to Brynn's friend. She'd been staying with Brynn for the week because of the concert, but their seats weren't together. After talking to Taylor on the phone and making their date, Brynn remembered that she couldn't just leave Holly at home. She called Taylor back and asked if they could make it a double date.

"I don't know. Brynn said she had long blonde hair. She said she's not thin, but not fat. And she loves to laugh. And she's almsot 18. She has the same birthday as you. That's all I know." He paused. "Oh yeah, and at the concert she was in the third row, on your side."

Isaac smiled. "Well that's cool. Maybe I'll recognize her. Is that them? He asked, pointing to two girls walking down the street, towards them.

"That's Brynn." Taylor smiled. He walked a few feet until he was standing in front of her. "Hi." He smiled.

"Hey." Brynn was wearing a pair of orange pants with a tight white tanktop that said "The Spirit of 76". "Hi Isaac." She smiled.

"Hey, how's your wrist?"

"It's ok." She shrugged, ignoring the dark purple cast on her left arm. "Isaac, this is Holly."

Isaac reached out and took her hand. "Hi, Holly." He noticed that each wrist had about seven bracelets, one of them seemed very familiar to him. It was actually a frog scrunchie. "You look really familiar."

Holly's eyes widened. She had dark blonde hair that came to the middle of her back, similar to Brynn's, but thicker. Her eyes were a mix of green, brown, and gold. "I do? I wonder why..."

"The concert. You were on my side?"

"Yeah."

"Were you... wearing a crown or something?"

Holly's mouth dropped open. "Oh my God."

Brynn laughed. "Holly is the pretty pretty princess."

Isaac smiled. "I remember your frog thing too. I saw you holding it in the air and I swear I thought you were going to throw it at me."

"I was!" She laughed. "But that stupid security guard was giving me dirty looks so I decided to be good."

"The bald one?"

"Yeah."

Taylor interrupted "Ok. Can we go inside now? The movie already started. I think it's something... long and stupid. But my mom said it was good." He shrugged.

Brynn's face flushed with heat as Taylor took hold of her hand and led her into the theater. Isaac smiled and nudged Holly's shoulder with his own. "Cute couple, huh?"

"Yeah, it's so weird."

"Weird, how?"

"I don't know. Just yesterday I was screaming my head off trying to get you to wave to me and now..."

Isaac smiled and paid for their tickets, then found seats near the back of the theater.

Taylor and Brynn sat in front of Isaac and Holly. They sat down and Brynn fidgeted a little, adjusting her cast. "You ok?" He asked, genuinely concerned. He was actually surprisd that she kept their date. He didn't know what he was thinking asking a girl with a concussion to the movies.

"I'm fine. It's just kinda heavy. I'll get used to it, I guess."

"How long does it stay on?"

"Only a few weeks. They said it depends." She shrugged and jumped when a handful of smarties came flying at her head. She turned around and glared at Holly. "When the hell did you have time to buy candy?" She asked, glancing down at a huge bag of assorted junkfood.

"I brought it. It's my brother's stash. Brought it with me for the concert. I was gonna bribe some people into being my friend." She grinned.

Brynn turned to Taylor and smiled. "I told you she was weird."

Taylor smiled at Holly and shrugged. "Oh well." Then he turned back to Brynn. "So... uhm... has the movie started yet?"

Brynn laughed. "I think so. Or are we still in the credits?"

"There weren't supposed to be credits."

"Ok then the movie started." She slouched down into her seat, trying to pay close attention to what was happening on the screen. There was no use, it was the most boring movie she'd ever seen. And it had only been five minutes. "Ok this blows." She yelled.

Three rather large women that were sitting in the row in front of them turned around and "shhhhed" as loud as they could. One of them continued to glare.

"Yeah yeah ok. We get the point, turn the hell back around." Holly waved her hand motioning the woman back to the movie.

She let out a discouraged, "hmmph", and turned around.

Brynn smiled at Taylor. "See, that's why I take her places."

Taylor laughed and looked over at Brynn. She was sitting low in her seat in the perfect position for him to slide his arm around her... he lifted his arm and... put it back down by his side. He sighed and decided to try later.

Holly and Isaac noticed and Isaac smiled. He leaned forward and whispered into Taylor's ear. "You can't see, but I'm trying to break your nervousness by mooning you."

Taylor jumped and turned around.

"Wow, he actually looked." Holly laughed.

Taylor grumbled to himself and leaned over towards Brynn. "So uhm... the movie blows... my brother is a butt... you wanna go for a walk?"

Brynn nodded. "Sure."

Isaac and Holly watched as Brynn and Taylor left the theater. Once outside, they began their walk across the street and through the park in the center of Public Square. It didn't take long before Taylor noticed that Brynn was shivering, so he, like a gentleman, took off his pleather jacket and put it around her shoulders.

Brynn smiled at him. "Very nice... just as I would have expected."

Taylor smiled back and reached out to hold her hand.

"That doesn't bother you?"

"What?"

She shrugged. "I dunno. I think about that a lot. I've always wondered if you ever get annoyed when a fan thinks they know everything there is to know about you."

"You get used to it."

"Or what about when a fan has these huge expectations of what you're going to be like in person. Don't you ever get nervous about living up to those expectations?"

Taylor nodded and smiled. "Every time I meet a fan."

"It's got to be really hard."

"It is. But at the end of the day it's worth it."

Brynn was about to say something else when she heard scuffling behind them. Then, Isaac ran up beside Taylor. "Hey, Tay, dad just paged me. He needs us back at the bus asap."

"Dammit. Why?" Taylor asked, clearly disappointed.

"Dunno. Just said, 'bus, asap'. That's the extent of my knowledge."

"Great." He sighed and turned to Brynn. "So uhm... he sighed and smiled. Can we give you a ride home?"

Brynn shook her head. "You don't have too. I have my cell phone back now, so I can call my mom and she can come get us."

"No, I wanna give you a ride."

Brynn smiled. "Ok."

Isaac grabbed Taylor's arm and pulled him. "ASAP!" Then he smiled at Holly. "Come on, we can show you the bus."

"Kickass."

After about half a mile's walk, they found the bus, parked in the most inconspicuous spot they could find. Taylor went into the bus first and then let Brynn up. Then Isaac went in, followed by Holly. The ride in the bus itself was just the start of another dream come true.
