Chapter 3

Written by Heather Berry, Cowriter at large

"Dude," I groaned, "I'm bored."

"Me too," Piper said, dramatically flopping down on the couch and throwing a pillow at me.

I threw it back at her and stuck my tongue out. "Well, that took care of some of the boredness for about 2 minutes. Now what?" I looked over at Piper, who had rolled onto the floor under the coffee table. I sat there for a minute staring, not blinking, then I jumped up into the air and squealed, which made Piper scream.

"WHAT?!" She shrieked.

"I KNOW WHAT WE CAN DO!"

Piper stood up, put her hands on her hips and looked at me, "What?"

"We can have a picnic!!"

"Dude! Good idea! But, where are we going to have a picnic?"

"Well, duh. Out in front. In the middle of the street. We can't have a picnic without being noticed, right?" I gleemed. Piper laughed and we set off into different directions in the house, finding our gatherings for the picnic. I, of course, gathered the basket and stacked it with food, I'm the expert on food; Piper got a blanket (actually, it was a red and white checkered table cloth but who knew?). Then we set off skipping down to the very edge of grass in the front yard. We decided against the middle of the street. Traffic is bad. I kept my eye on Joey's house, checking for any sign of movement that I could see in case it needed to be 'inspected'.

"Would you stop spying on that house?!" Piper mumbled, stuffing part of an apple into her mouth.

"I'm not SPYING. I'm.. inspecting."

Piper laughed. "Inspecting for what? Or should I say, whom?"

"Uh..well, you know. Shadows or evil things that go bump in the night."

Piper looked at me and raised an eyebrow, "You mean, like really hot guys that YOU want to bump in the night?" She always knew exactly what I was thinking.

"Well.. yeah.. maybe." I laughed. I think she knew I meant Nowell, who I was ever so developing a crush for. Damn these hormones. They get in the way of a lot of things.

"Let's picnic," Piper said, laughing. Even though she had already "Dug in" to the picnic basket when I wasn't looking. Sneaky little ho.

"Let's." Piper put down the "blanket", then we took off our shoes putting one on each corner. Of course the boots we were wearing really stood out, seeing how they were almost a foot high in total. And Piper's boots were bright orange. Big surprise there. I put the basket of food down in the middle, and just as we were taking the food out, Nowell walked across the street and stood above us. Piper looked up and squinted.

"May we help you?" She said in her best British accent. This was new. She usually uses the Australian one when talking to hot guys.

"Not really, no. Although you yourselves may need help. Why are you having a picnic? Here of all spots?" He directed the question to Piper I think, but I answered anyway. He seemed to shy to talk to me. I'd sure fix that.

"Well." I finished chewing and swallowed. "Why not? Where else are we going to have a picnic? The slanted room seemed to dangerous."

"Good point," he said, smiling. Ooh. Nice smile. He stuffed his hands into his pockets, obviously looking like he didn't know what to do next. I looked into the food, and reached for a cookie. I held the cookie up to him and said, what else? "Want a cookie?"

He took out a hand from his pocket and took the cookie. "Thanks." He smiled.

"Have a seat," I told him. "So where's Joey?"

"Yeah. I thought you two were always like.. seen together?" Piper asked. She seemed like she almost worried where Joey went to.

"He's going to be.. away for a little while." Nowell answered cautiously.

"Oh. How come he didn't tell us?"

"I dunno," he stuffed the rest of the cookie in his mouth, "I guess he thought you guys wouldn't notice."

"Oh." Piper and I said in unison. We looked up at each other, then I glanced down at the basket. It was virtually empty. "Omigod, Piper, we ate all that food." I laughed.

"Hm. So we did," she laughed. "You're a pig." Even though she ate just as much as me. We'll just say that Nowell may have stolen a few more cookies. *innocent smile*.

We spent a view minutes more talking to Nowell, then when things started to get quiet, I suggested that Piper and I should get going before her mom got back.

"Yeah, we probably should," she agreed.

Nowell nodded, "I actually have to go do some errands anyway." He stood up. "So I'll see you later?" he said to me.

"Yeah, you bet." I smiled at him. Piper and I picked up our things and ran back to the house.

"Let's dye our hair!" I screamed at her, seeing how she was already in the house. Piper has this amazing collection of hair dye.

"Yeah! Okay!" She shouted back.

"I want purple and blue this time!!! Yellow didn't quite suit me last week." And before I closed the door, I looked behind me only to see Nowell staring after me. I smiled and waved, then closed the door. What a hottie.
