Walk In The Rain
(This is something a little different...I'd like to dedicate it to Peter a good friend of mine here online who not only helped to inspire this piece of writing, but who was also able to find poetry in a simple conversation. Peter, you remain one of my dearest friends and biggest fans...Thanks and Hugs :) )
I grasp your hand in mine
and take you out into the rain.
The soft droplets fall
gently against our skin
as we walk and converse together.
The wind softly caresses our bodies,
a soft and gentle breeze,
cooling the droplets left by the rain.
Your hand is warm against mine,
in the coolness of the rain,
and I relish it’s presence.
People stop to stare at us as we pass,
like we have lost our minds,
walking and laughing as we are in the rain.
Your smile is like a ray of sunshine on this cloudy day
and just the sight of it brings a smile to my face.
The rain splashes up upon our legs
from the puddles along the road;
our legs become damp with water
and we find the dampness both cool and refreshing.
The rain becomes slightly harder,
the droplets more forceful as they fall upon our skin.
We look ahead to watch the display of fireworks
nature has provided us with
as the storm increases in intensity in the distance.
I shiver ever so slightly,
and you offer me your jacket...
still warm from your body.
I drape it across my shoulders
feeling the heat from it against my cool skin.
Thunder sounds in the distance;
but I am not afraid,
for I feel safe here with you.
