David T. Zimmerman

Mr. Zimmerman served as a private in company G 93rd Regiment Penna. Volunteers during the Civil War. He was a member of Reuben Ferner Post, GAR and was one of the officers of the Stoystown Methodist Episcopal Church."

David T. Zimmerman is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, 1/4 mile west of Stoystown, PA.

He was born December 30, 1835 and died May 9, 1914.

According to the records listed in "A History of the 93rd..." David T. was mustered into service September 10, 1864 for the term of one year. Mustered out with the company on June 27th 1865.

David T. Zimmerman, the veteran saddler of Stoystown died of a complication of diseases at the Memorial Hospital in his 79th year. He had been a patient at the Eighth Warm institution during the past seven weeks. The remains were prepared for burial and taken to the Zimmerman homestead in Stoystown (PA) this afternoon. The funeral, which will be in charge of the officers of Reuben Ferner Post, Grand Army of the Republic, will take place from the Stoystown Methodist Episcopal Church at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.

The deceased was born at Stoystown, December 30, 1835 and was a son of David and Christine Hoffman Zimmerman, two of the pioneer residents of Somerset County. He was one of a family of five children and is the fourth of the number to pass away. Early in life, Mr. Zimmerman served his apprenticeship as a saddler, and later opened a shop there.

At the printing of the first edition of "A History of the 93rd..." ( 1911) David T. Zimmerman of Somerset, PA. was listed as one of the remaining survivors of the 93rd Reg.

David. T. and his wife Mary Jane were the parents of six children - William E., Maude, Harry, Lucy, Dolly, and Emma.
