Vampire:According to Webster's College Dictionary the defination is a reanimated body of a dead person who can not rest quietly in the grave, but arises at night and sucks the blood of sleepers. NOW I have a slight problem with this explanation of the Vampire...so i searched around to see what I could find and came up with a better one: a mythical creature who is "undead"and doomed to leave the grave and feed upon the blood or vitality of the living.
Vampirism: is the act of taking another person's fluid or energy.
Afrit: an Arabian legend, of a vampiric spirit of a murdered man seeking vengence for his untimely death. The demon rises up like smoke from the blood of the victiam, and can be stopped by driving a nail in the blood on the ground.
Aswang Manananggal: ( ain't that a mouthful) they are respected Philipine men or women in their cities by day, but by night the are shape-shifters y that fly around with out a body with trailing entrails. They feed upon the flesh, organs, and mucus of humans...especially that of fetuses and newborns.
Book of Nod:( from the Masquerade) The sacred book of the Kindred tracing their orgin and their History... Stating Kain ( Adam & Eve's son) as the first and the start of all vampires...
Bhuta: In India... it is a spirit or demon of the dead. They are restless souls of men who died untimely deaths. They are flesh eaters who haunt forests and empyt dwellings by day and night. They are flickering lights or mist and cast no shadows. They can possess victims and make them sick and eventually die.
Brahmaparusha: Another Indian Vampire simular to the Bhuta. A male demon seen as wearing a wreath of intestines((yuck)) ad eating the flesh off of a mans skull, and drinking their blood.
Clan: ( from the Masquerade) A group of Vampires, who share certain mystic and physical characteristics.
Elder:( from the Masquerade) A Vampire who is 300 years of age or older.
Embrace:( from the Masquerade) The act of draining the blood of a mortal and replacing it with a little of his/ her own...therefore transforming the mortal into a vampire.
Ekimmu: In Babylonian and Assyrian demonlogy it is a restless spirit denied to enter the UNDERWORLD because of improper burial or due to lack of proper burial preporation by the living. They do not suck blood or eat flesh...but they terrorize the living by causing misfortune and destruction at night. More like a ghost or polterguiest.
Empusa:a Greek Vampiric spirit has no shape and many guises. Sometimes seens as a beautiful waman that enters the body of it's victim and eats its flesh and drinks its blood.
Eretik:Russian, a heretic who becomes a vampire after death...sucking blood and eating flesh from their victiams...They were usually believed to be Witches, Wizards, Sorcerers, and the "old Believers" of religion.
Hantu langsuir; Hantu pennanggalan: both Female Vampires that are seen as women, who drink the blood of children, usually newborns
Ghoul:( from the Masquerade) a servant created by allowing a mortal to drink a vampires blood with out the draining that would make them a vampire.
Lamia:female birth demons...named after Lamia a goddess who was having an affair with Zeus, Hera found out and killed all of the offspring... Lamia became demons that feed off of newborns... In Hebrew lore , the are represented by Lilith, Adams first wife who was punished for refusing to be submissive and have sex lying on her back... She is said to be the first of the Vampires and according to the book of Nod...she seduces Caine and makes him a Vampire also.
loogaroo:a West Indies vampire... a lady who has made a pact with the devil.
Mullo: A Gypsy Vampire whos name means "living Dead"...they are restless spirits that rise from their graves and reek havoc on thoses that they didn't like in life.
Nosferatu:Romanian which means Undead
Strigoi:another Romanian term for Vampire applied to the returning dead.
Upior: Polish term for Vampire.
Vyrkolakas: Greek term for Vampire.
Vampir: Hungarian term for Vampire.
Wampira: Russian term for Vampire.
