This is a scroll for the Jewel of AEthelmearc. It is given *at most* once per reign to a gentle from AEthelmearc who best demonstrates the ideals of the Society.
This piece was done on an 11x14 inch piece of opaline (spam) vellum. The gold leaf is Master John's double Cennini weight on a base of home made gesso. The paints are a combination of tube gouache and period pigments.
I have been teaching my 13 year old daughter, Kaithren, how to paint. She did several of the gems on this scroll. I am most proud of the large pearl she painted in the center of the middle motif on the right side. I don't think I could have done a better job :-)
I have received some questions since posting this - about the blank shield at the top.Yes, it is for the recipient's arms. Personal heraldry is abundant in this style of scroll.I was sworn to absolute secrecy about this assignment. I didn't want to cause any suspicion, so I didn't consult anyone about the emblazon. I'll make arrangements with Alaric to fill in his device as soon as possible.
