Softly, Softly
Softly, softly go across
the hard wood floor is newly shined
the fresh laid boards will creak and groan
they will make your presence known
As well what’s on your mind
God, he’ll wake up any moment
a layer of hatred clearly set
He’ll see me and understand
He’ll see and know why I ran
and do something he’ll regret
Maybe he’s to drunk to care
but he’s always wide awake
Softy, softly slink away
And when you get up today
I won’t hear what noise you make
The birds are singing songs outside
Angels voices overhead
They’ll wake him up and he’ll arise
and see the terror that’s in my eyes
his face is blank and dead
So softly, softly blow a kiss
So softly, softly shut the door
He is faded in the gray
The bogeyman has gone away
He won’t be there anymore
Back home
