Freezing rain has already begun here in Delaware County, albeit light, but it is making
driving hazardous, especially on untreated surfaces. Freezing rain should be spotty
through the remainder of the night and may even mix with a few snowflakes by dawn.
Precip should become steadier by the morning rush causing driving conditions to be
hazardous. Freezing rain, or a mix f freezing rain and sleet will continue in spurts
throughout the remainder of the morning hours. Significant ice accumulation is possible
with this system by lunch time. Depending on the exact strenght of the low pressure area
causing the precip and the arctic high to the north, we may changeover to plain rain in the
afternoon. However, several of the computer model forecasts continue to show a shallow
layer of cold air entrapped over our region. This would lead to a more prolonged icing
event. Nonetheless, driving will be tricky at best tomorrow. By tomorrow night, any precip
should be plain rain. It could also get pretty heavy for a while. I will update this forecast
again in the morning hours to let everyone kno exactly what is transpiring. Again, be very
cautious while travelling. Leave plenty of extra space between you and the driver ahead.
Take care.
