December 20, 2000

The Delaware Valley awoke this morning with total snow accumulations ranging from a half inch to a little over an inch in some spots. So, the system in general behaved as we thought it would. The remainder of the day will feature mostly sunny skies with the high in the lower 30s. Thursday will be partly sunny with the high around 30. Thursday night will feature increasing clouds as our next weather system approaches the area. In some regards, this system will be similar to the last one in that a low pressure area will track through the upper midwest and then redevelop along the east coast. The differences lie in the general tilt of the trough and timing of individual shortwaves diving into the trough. At this time, it appears that this storm will not be as major as thought earlier in the week, but will feature snow nonetheless. Snow should break out around midnight on Thursday and continue into the day on Friday. This next system should have some Gulf moisture to work with, so it should be able to produce slightly higher accumulations than last night. However, a handful of guidance says that this will be a quick mover, so the jury is still out. Will have a better idea of accumulation by later tonight or early Thursday. Things will clear out Friday afternoon with the high in the mid 30s. Saturday will be partly cloudy with a flurry or two and the high in the 30s. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day look pleasant with the highs in the low to mid 30s. Yes, looks like a White Christmas this year. Check back later for updates on the next system arriving Thursday night. Take care.
