Now that we are finally one full week into winter, the computer model forecasts are
actually beginning to look winter-like, both medium range and long range. Today will be
mostly cloudy with a shower or two in the afternoon. Highs will be in the low 40's. Tonight
will also be mostly cloudy with the low around 35. Tomorrow we will be under mostly
cloudy skies as a system from the Great Lakes approaches and tries to develop a low
somewhere off the coast. With this system, I see nothing but liquid precipitation for our
area. Rain may start tomorrow evening and last into Wednesday morning. Highs
tomorrow in the mid to upper 40's. Highs Wednesday near 40 and dropping as the day
progresses. It will get quite cold here again later in the week. The next system which
bears watching looks to affect our region by the weekend, especially on Saturday. It is
way to early to call, but relaying model data shows an interesting setup here, with possible
damming occurring east of the Appalachians. The storm will emerge from Colorado on
Friday and race ENE. It looks to be a fairly large system. With cold air forecasted to be in
place, this does bear watching. Right now, the majority of models start us off as snow or a
mix and then change us over to all rain. Interestingly enough, the MRF rushes the cold air
back in quickly enough to give all metro area a decent shot of snow before the storm pulls
out on Sunday. This is not my forecast, but an evaluation of model data. It wouldn't be
very wise to start talking particulars on this 'event' this early into the forecast period.
Check back soon.
