December 5, 2003
Not a whole lot to add to this brief update. Everything so far has gone as scheduled. Our area has accumulated around 4" throught the day on Friday, so the call for 2-5" before Saturday seems like a good call for now. Additional accumulations on Saturday should be another 2-5" so our original call Thursday night of total storm accumulations between 6-12" still seems reasonable.
Snowfall will taper to very light snow and flurries over the next several hours as we are in a lull between systems. As the secondary storm system begins to gain strength off the VA coastline overnight, snow axis will pivot back into our area by daybreak and will be moderate for several hours with gusty winds and 'near' blizzard conditions in our area. Blowing and drifting snow will become a problem during the day on Saturday with high temperatures around freezing.
Snow will taper to flurries and snow showers in the afternoon and skies will turn partly cloudy overnight Saturday. Looks as though we are entering an active period of weather with at least 2 'potential' systems in the forecast over the next 10 days.
So, more snow Saturday will add to any accumulations already on the ground. Snowfall totals will range from 6-12" in our area with greater amounts North and West of the city and lesser amounts as you head South and East towards the Jersey shore. Keep warm!
