Short update to point out a potentially snowy scenario on Thursday. After bitter cold weather today, temperatures will rebound on Tuesday with highs in the low 40s and near 50 on Wednesday. Rain moves in Tuesday night and into Wednesday in response to some warm air advection snows out ahead of a cold front moving in from the Midwest. As the front pushes through and stalls out to our South later Wednesday, low pressure will form along the front and may intensify rapidly. With cold air filtering in from the North, this sets the stage for potential wintry weather Wednesday night and into Thursday. As it stands now, our area stands to be on the Northern fringe of any precip and the cutoff between heavy precip and zilch will be very sharp. Right now would bet that we get some light snow Wednesday night into Thursday. I do beleive that last week's system was a fluke system this winter as most other similair setups brought our area frozen precipitation. This next system again looks similair to what we've seen in that most guidance is virtually the same, as with last system there was zero agreement. With a significant blocking pattern developing over the Arctic, the next few weeks, the weather should be quite an interesting roller coaster ride as we've seen Monday just how easy it is to get sub freezing high temps back into the area. With the influx of subtropical moisture making it's way onto the scene, the chances for a significant "event" during the month of March stands very high this season.
So in short, temps rebound Tuesday with highs in the low to mid 40s. Clouds increase during the afternoon with rain developing overnight Tuesday. Temps steady or slowly rising though the mid 40s Tuesday night. Areas of patchy fog may develop. Rain early on Wednesday. Clouds try to break at times. Highs around 50 early with the temperature gradually dropping as the day goes on. Snow or rain breaks out again Wednesday night and into Thursday as low pressure developing along an old front throws moisture our way. Too early to determine exact precip types or amounts at this time but leaning in the direction of snow, or rain changing to snow. More updates to follow. Take care!
